It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.
This week Christmas cards have started coming in to the mailbox. Please don’t feel bad if you haven’t got yours done yet. Mine are done but not addressed or written in. It’s like my mind said “yep, they are made and now I am done”. But I have still quite a bit to do. And I’ll be honest…I will get them out before Christmas but probably just barely.
But my point is not to note that I am not done. My point is how much getting a card in the mailbox means. Please send a card this year. It may not be a Christmas card. Send New Years or Valentine’s Day instead. But please send one to brighten someone’s day.
It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to create a mask, emboss resist, and pearlize penguins. Yes, all today. All right now! Let’s go!
Cut the Thick Basic White Card Stock to 4 1/4″ X 11″ with the Paper Trimmer. On the 11″ side score at 5 1/2″. This is your card base.
Cut the Basic Black Card Stock to 5″ X 3 3/4″. Attach with Stampin’ Seal. This is your outer mat.
Cut the Basic White Card Stock to 4 1/2″ X 3 1/4″.
Stamp the penguins first with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Also stamp the one sliding on a piece of scrap card stock or copy paper. Cut out the penguin from the scrap paper to create a mask. Punch out the other penguin.
Place both penguin masks down and then stamp hill also in black ink. (By placing the masks down the hill won’t go through the body of the penguin.) Then stamp another hill on a scrap piece of card stock. Cut out the top curve with Snips.
Stamp trees down below the penguins also in black.
Stamp snowflakes above with Versamark Ink and then cover with Clear Embossing Powder, then heat with Heat Tool.
Now place all the masks down and color the top half with black ink and a Blending Brush. Tip: Wipe off snowflakes with a paper towel to get off excess ink.
Take a piece of waxed paper and squeeze about a dime’s worth of the Basic Black Pearlized Enamel Effects on to it. Then take the smallest Water Painter filled with water and drip about three drops of water on to the enamel. Stir well. Then paint the penguins to pearlize. Let dry.
It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!
Did you know that rings can become organizers? I found a new way to keep my Christmas cards that are coming in. I take a notebook ring or binder loop, a hole punch, and my Christmas card I want to keep. I cut the card in half so it can be easily read, punch holes, and then thread it through the rings.
How do you keep your Christmas cards organized? Do you display them, stack, or hang them?
It’s Technique Tuesday! Today is more of a tip than a technique.
When you are doing multiple projects remember that you can stack your card stock. Instead of only scoring one piece at a time do as many as will fit in the Paper Trimmer. Make sure to use the lines going down to ensure that your pieces are all straight.
When you can be efficient so you have more time to design and create.
It’s Management Monday! Here’s what’s happening this week and maybe a bit beyond.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.
Sunday is usually my slower day and it’s usually the day I have the most anxiety. I haven’t worked out for a day or two and I don’t have much planned. And my mind wanders.
So what’s the solution? Plan some fun activities like go for a walk, watch a movie, or just be creative with no class in mind. But why is this a struggle for me on a day with not much going on. Well, my mind has time to think and, after reading, exercise curbs anxiety and depression.
In an article titled “Exercise for Stress and Anxiety” it is stated that exercise not only helps with the physical condition as well as fighting disease, but it helps with mental fitness and reducing stress too. Some therapists are even starting to prescribe exercise instead of medicine for some cases.
