Mastering the swipe.

It’s Tutorial Thursday!  The swipe is not a hard technique but it does take some practice.  If you push too hard you get too much ink or you could damage your pad.  If you push too lightly then you don’t have enough background and have to start over.  There is definitely a sweet spot.

So the first few that you do I would encourage you to do on a scrap piece of card stock.  It needs to be similar to your final product otherwise it will soak up the ink differently and your practice will be for nothing.  Here’s a photo of some finished cards.

Use glue to position.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!  Did you know the multipurpose glue can be used for more than gluing in place?  If you need to position something and remove it then use this liquid magic.  Simply drop a few dots down on a surface you don’t mind glue being on.  Let dry until tacky.  Then place card stock over and gently press.  The glue will hold the card stock in place with minimal damage so you can stamp without the paper shifting.

When ink pads are used with no stamps.

It’s Technique Tuesday!  Did you know you could use your ink pads without any stamps?  They create great backgrounds.  Just place your ink pad on your card stock and swipe across the page.  Depending on how deep a color is how much pressure you use.

Resting by processing

It’s Sabbath Sunday!  This week has been a whirlwind for me.  How was your week?

I am resting today by putting my feet up (still in Florida) and processing my notes and going through everything I have jotted and taken pictures of.

What is your process for de-compressing after you have received a ton of information?

Passion helps volunteering to thrive.

It’s Friendship Friday!  This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.  Today hits a little close to home as it is about my husband, Joel.  Joel is a musician through and through and if you don’t know him he is either on or off.  He is either sleeping or going a million miles an hour.  So it is probably no surprise to you when I say that his passion of music is also where he volunteers.

He volunteers at the local high school helping with the marching band.  He teaches music theory, fixes instruments, listens to the kids, and pretty much anything else to keep the band in step.  I am not saying all of this to have someone pat me or him on the back.  What I am saying is that I find it very interesting that if the field where you are asked to volunteer is your passion it is so much easier to be willing to give your time.

So look at what you are passionate about.  If it’s sewing, maybe ask the neighbor kid if she or he would like to learn.  Cooking, then teach someone your favorite recipe.  Figure out what is fun for you and pass it on.
