Where a block becomes a straight edge.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Today’s post I give credit to Lisa Hull. Thank you Lisa for showing me a new way to do things with what is already on the table.

Today I am using a clear block to rip the tear tape on a small tab. If you don’t have enough room to get your fingers in there then use a clear block to pull against much like a straight edge.

Ink with embossing folders.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today is the day that we use our stamp pads in a totally different way. Take your ink pad and open it just like you would when you are stamping. Then apply ink to your embossing folder. Pay attention to what side you are inking. If you want the ink on the raised side then you will place the ink on the side of the folder that has the logo. Lay your card stock in the embossing folder and run through your die-cutting machine just like always.

The one on the left is very vanilla card stock with early espresso ink. The one on the right is early espresso card stock with white ink.

How to get back control.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and re-charge. I don’t know about you but I need this day. I need a day to focus on me. Just one though.

Today I found a video that I really like that talks about being busy versus productive. And when you find yourself getting busy how to change it to being productive. It’s all about slowing down and consolidating things. Believe it or not, it’s about doing less instead of more.

Here’s the link so give a listen…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHESo0tomIg.

Giving back locally.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward. Today’s topic is very close to home. In fact it lives in my home and has since I got married. It’s band life. Jazz, marching, choir, dixie, rock, ska, drum line, swing, metal…you name it I bet it’s been played in this house.

As most of you know I took on president of the Yucca Valley Music Boosters Association on June 1. I knew I could make a difference or an impact not only on my daughter’s senior year, but on 200 other kids as well. No, I wasn’t looking for another project but sometimes you just have to get it done.

I know you’re sitting here reading this thinking where’s the hook? How much will this cost me this time? Yes, it will cost, but only if you choose to participate. I am asking everyone if they would like to give $20 (more or less). I will combine whatever comes in to be given under the name of the “Red Door Crafters”. I will be collecting until September 15.

Here are the sponsorship packages so you know what they look like.

If you want to give on your own you can go to http://www.yvhsmusic.com.

If you can’t give or would simply like to see what happens then come to an expo, game, or event. Tonight is the first one at 6:30 at Yucca Valley High School. Let me know that you are coming since it’s on the back side of the campus.

Thank you for being a part of this crazy, crafty group.

Happy Crafting!

P.S. If you have a cause or organization you are passionate about please email me details at reddoor@stampingwithjoni.com. I would love to feature anything our “family” is giving towards for our give back Fridays.

Back to school card.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today is the day we sing “inch worm, inch worm…”. Did that just play in your head?

As everyone is getting ready for back to school (unless you have survived it) I am going back to the drawing board. Today’s card has a chalkboard or blackboard for the mat. I thought about that last night as I was shooting the Live, are there even chalkboards any longer? Or is everything a dry erase board or even a smart board. Nevertheless, here’s a chalkboard with an inch worm for back to school.

He’s easy to create. Grab a white card base, daffodil delight mat, basic black inner mat, and some scraps of granny apple green. Add a chalk marker and some google eyes and you are ready to go.

In the video, not only do I show you how to make this card, but I also show you some more new products from the Holiday Catalog. Come pick up your copy at the Open House on Saturday! Here’s the video link…https://youtu.be/U3oSMZ67asQ

Scoring is not always for folding.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Today we are using the scoring tool to not create a fold. Instead the embossed image will be for texture or emphasis. So grab your trimmer, stylus and a ruler, or your score board and start scoring with me.

Using Memories & More to Meet in the Middle!

It’s Technique Tuesday! Sometimes you are trying to create a quick card and it just doesn’t seem to come together. You don’t want to cut another piece of card stock but all your scraps are just a bit too short. Then grab some Designer Series Paper or a Memories & More scrap and place it in the middle. Simply cut and trim so it looks like it is supposed to be that way.
