Gated inlays.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I am showing you how to create this card.

Here are the instructions.

  1. Cut Thick Whisper White Card Stock to 4 1/4″ X 11″. On the 11″ side score at 5 1/2″. This is your card base.
  2. Cut Blackberry Bliss Card Stock to 5″ X 3 3/4″. Run through die cut machine with gate die. You will use the outside frame and keep the gate for another card. Attach the mat with cutout to the card base.
  3. Take Night of Navy Card Stock and run through machine with gate die. Attach cutout to inside of mat with Snail Adhesive.
  4. Cut Leaf Ribbon and attach with Glue Dots.
  5. For sentiment (Peaceful Moments Stamp Set used here) stamp in Versamark Ink and then quickly in to Blackberry Bliss. Stamp on card base and quickly cover with Clear Embossing Powder. Melt with Heat Tool.
  6. For flowers take Small Bloom Punch and punch out about a dozen flowers from the Peaceul Poppies Designer Series Paper. Snip each petal at an angle. Spritz with water until damp. Use large stylus to shape. When dry attach together with Glue Dots as well as to card. Place gems in center of each flower (Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels used here).

When dies line up with paper.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

You know how I usually talk about how a product is used in a weird way. Like how a heart becomes a hershey kiss or a poppy center becomes a crown. I remind you to look at things sideways, upside down, and backwards to find out what else there is.

Well, today instead I am talking about how two products from two different suites coordinate. I was amazed when the rose from the Garden Gateway Dies fell on top of the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper and it matched. Don’t always look sideways, sometimes look across to different parts of the catalog.

P.S. We will be creating with this combination on Saturday for Betty’s Class. Today is the last day to reserve your seat so let me know ASAP if you are coming!

To get a different look make it inlaid.

It’s Technique Tuesday! To get a different look make it inlaid.

When using the Painted Poppies stamp set and coordinating dies make them inlaid. Instead of having a detailed flower sitting on top of your card that could rip or catch think about cutting out a space for it to lay evenly with the rest of the mat. For this poppy I cut out the black card stock with the coordinating framelit and then cut out the detailed section with the Designer Series Paper.

If you would like to see how this is done please join me on Wednesday at noon for the facebook live.

Rest right here.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! Today is the day to rest and recharge. I am finding that when I set time aside and make deadlines to work, play, rest, or whatever everything else falls into place. I am more focused and less distracted.

How does it work for you? Do you do better with plans or do you just fly by the seat of your pants?

So, until I learn something else, I will set deadlines and keep learning when to rest and when to work.

When all you need is a note.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward!

Have you ever opened your mailbox to find nothing but bills and junk mail? As I sulk back to the house and look to see what is on sale at the grocery store I wish there was more. And some days you get just that…more.

So yesterday was that day for me. I opened my mailbox to some junk mail, probably a bill or two, and then a couple of special pieces. There was a big envelope and a smaller one. The smaller one I knew was a handmade card that came just as I needed a pick me up. I love how connected I feel to many crafters. There are a few that are especially close.

And the bigger envelope had about thirty thank you notes from the kids (high schoolers) that I presented to in December. Every single one was special but of course a few stand out.

As I am reminded of the great feeling I have opening my mailbox to something more than the every day routine things I have to tell myself to be better about mailing out “just because” cards.

What do you need to work on?

Black and white is simple and so elegant.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today’s tutorial is fairly simple but yet elegant. The focus is on silhouettes today. It is using the new coordinating dies that will be available February 4 called Sending Flowers Dies.

Start with a piece of Thick White Card Stock cut at 4 1/4″ X 11″. On the 11″ side score at 5 1/2″. Then take a piece of Basic Black Card Stock cut at 5″ X 3 3/4″. Run through die machine with circular flower and scalloped rectangle dies. You will need patience to get out all of the extra pieces.

Attach all pieces with Snail Adhesive.

Don’t forget to stamp in the middle.

When black ink isn’t enough.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Did you know that sometimes even our black ink isn’t black enough? When you need a silhouette you can just stamp it with ink, you can color over the ink, or emboss with powder. Watch at noon as I go Live to demonstrate how to have the blackest black.

Using a bag for a mat.

It’s Technique Tuesday!

For those of you that do not get the Paper Pumpkin monthly kit this time consisted of mini note cards with envelopes and some cute treat bags. I saw the treat bags and just had to have those on a card. So I cut on all sides to separate the seams and get a mat instead. I found the coordinating card stock and created a cute card.

So the technique or tip for today is to grab what you have and see what else you can create with it.

Happy Crafting!

Joni 🙂
