Texture is Key

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to talk to you about texture. This card may not have a bunch of color but it makes up for it with texture and depth.

For this card I used the Labels Aglow Dies as well as the Layering Circles to get depth and texture. I also put the same color (Early Espresso) for the outer and inner mats. The inner mat has some height thanks to Dimensionals.

When you use this technique please post it to my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

To Rest is to Recover Your Strength

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

I recently was working out and realized how sore I was. I felt rather weak and was having trouble lifting heavier things that normally I could do. So I took a couple of days off, ate right, and drank a bit more water than I normally do. And it worked. It seemed that I was able to do more now.

Often I read in blogs for exercise or mental strength to make sure to schedule in rest days. This allows the muscles to heal from the little tears that happen during exercise. This process allows for the build up of strength. But there is a balance to work and rest. Too much rest and you don’t build strength. Too much work and you can’t rest and can’t continue to be productive. It’s all a balance. And for me that balance changes with the weather, my age, stress levels, and so many other factors.

I recently looked up the definition of rest. According to the dictionary site, “Rest is to cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength”.

Are you able to find your balance?

Time is the Best Gift

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

What’s the one thing you can never get back? Time!

Recently I had a friend that was having a bad day. I had just finished a long day myself and had told her I would call the next day. And then I had that little voice, that was extremely loud, saying “call her now”. And the usual things went through my head…I’m tired, I told her tomorrow…and on it goes. But the more I tried to push it off the louder that voice got. Until, finally, I got up and called.

We talked about pets, kids, and life. And yes, a little on what had happened. Two hours later both of us were better.

So what’s the point? Listen to that small voice. There is often a reason that small voice is nagging you.

4 Ways to Color with an Embossing Folder

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to color with embossing folders four different ways.

The first project has two of the ways to color. The background is done by stamping the Fern 3D Embossing Folder with the Versamark Ink Pad. After running the Evening Evergreen Card Stock through the Machine with the Versamark Ink I then cover the front with Gold Embossing Powder. And make sure to heat really well.

The smaller accent piece is done with the same folder with the same technique. But instead of Versamark Ink I used the Craft White Pad and then used the Clear Embossing Powder.

The second project uses the Hive 3D Embossing Folder. The Crushed Curry Card Stock is run through the Machine with Versamark Ink as well. But this time it is covered with Clear Embossing Powder and heated. Tip: Make sure you have lots of light so you can see that powder and when it is properly heated.

I then take a Blending Brush and apply the color.

And a close up.

And for the third, and final, project I used three different colors of card stock with a sneaky way of anchoring them all together. I then used Night of Navy Ink on the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder.

To see the video please go to my Facebook Page. Here is the link, https://fb.watch/f_IkA8clO1/.

I’m sorry it’s not on YouTube. Something got updated and I am not sure how to download it.

Dies for Borders

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Yesterday I talked about how border dies can make a card.

And today I want to talk to you about how a die can make a border. Cut your card stock slightly smaller than the die and place what edge you would like cut underneath. The rest of the card stock needs to go on top.

After running it through the Machine you will get an edge that you can use for an accent piece, tag, or whatever you would like. Tip: if you have a bit of a line from the die then take a Bone Folder and rub the “line” out.

When you use this technique please post a photo of your finished project on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

Happy Crafting!

Borders Aren’t Just for Edges

It’s Technique Tuesday! Do you have an embossing folder that is busy and you don’t know what to do with it? Then use some extra dies to create something else.

For this card I used the Thanks & Hello Embossing Folders (specifically the thanks one). I ran it through the Machine with Pumpkin Pie Card Stock. Then I took a Blending Brush and dipped it in Pumpkin Pie Ink. I wanted “thanks” highlighted or spotlighted.

Then I ran it back through with the Basic Borders Dies to create a middle section. Rustic Harvest 12″ X 12″ Designer Series Paper was used in the middle.

When you create with this technique please post a photo of your creation on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

More than Work

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

I don’t know about you but it’s been awhile since I have travelled. Between my daughter moving out and the dog’s health declining I didn’t have much time for fun. So now I am sitting here starting to plan fun things again.

I knew the season of not doing much would come to an end. I am grateful I had it but now I am ready to get back to life and adventures.

Have you gone through seasons that were not what you felt were your normal?

Happy Crafting!

With inky fingers,

Joni 🙂
