Taking a break.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! What do you do to take a break? I know many of you that teach are in the middle of grading and report cards. I know some of you are doing inventory and others are working on year end reports. So when everything is done how do you relax? How do you break up the routine?

For me it means going to a good dinner (not fancy but more comfort food). It means going in to the studio and just creating. Or it means having some fun at the mini golf place. And sometimes it means going to see a movie and escaping reality with a bucket of popcorn. I think today my daughter, Tara, has put in the request to see a movie. So it is off to the cinema we go.

Whatever you do I hope it is restful, peaceful, and rejuvenating.

Being nice to yourself.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward. Sometimes it’s the simple things that mean so much. It’s not always about buying a stranger’s cup of coffee. Sometimes it means getting on the floor to play with your kid. It might mean putting your phone away so you can be completely present with the person talking to you. Or you could learn the name of the cashier checking you out or the barista making your coffee. You could cook your spouse’s favorite dinner. There are so many ways to give back. Most of them are small gestures for the giver. But for the one receiving you never know when that is the little help needed that will get them back moving again.

So, for today, try to just smile more. Be conscious of it. Recently the sun has not been out and with the gray skies often come gloomy faces. See how a simple facial change makes the world a better place.

Gingham Butterflies.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I will show you how to create this card.

  1. Cut Thick Whisper White Card Stock at 4 1/4″ X 11″. Score at 5 1/2″.
  2. Cut Highland Heather Card Stock at 3 3/4″ X 5″. Attach to base with Snail Adhesive.
  3. Cut Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper to 1″ X 5″. Attach to mat with Snail Adhesive.
  4. Take Botanical Butterflies Designer Series Paper and punch out with Butterfly punch. Attach with Snail Adhesive.
  5. Take a scrap of black and also of white card stock and punch out with Classic Label Punch. Cut black punch out in half to stretch and glue to the back of the white. Stamp sentiment on white with Highland Heather ink (sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings). Attach with Mini Dimensionals.
  6. Use Take Your Pick Tool to position sequin to the punched card stock.

How to watercolor with the new ink pads.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Have you tried to watercolor with the new ink pads? The old ones “squished” pretty well so you could get some ink in the lid and use your aqua painter or blender pen to watercolor. The new pads are quite rigid and don’t “squish” well.

So instead of giving your ink pad a squeeze, grab a clear block. Dip the block in the ink and then dip the aqua painter or blender pen in the inked block.

What ink to use when.

It’s Technique Tuesday! A technique does not look like much of anything without the right ink. So for today I have found a chart for you with what ink to use when. If you have any questions please contact me.
