World Card Making Day

It’s Sale Saturday! Here are the deals for right now.

The Clearance Rack has some items still on it if you would like to take a look at https://jonidaniel.stampinup.net/. Just click on shop and sales&specials.

Get ready for this week as I get the details for the Designer Series Paper Sale. I know that it will not be all the papers, but select ones. And that they will be 15% off. It’s actually more than the 15% off as this is calculated before tax and shipping. It figures out to be just under 20%. So give me a couple of days and I will let you know what’s going on.

Personally, I am in the process of creating an event for World Card Making Day. There will be contests, prizes, giveaways, a card making kit, promotions, and more. Be looking for more details later this week.

Happy Crafting!

P.S. What is something on your list that you hope goes on sale soon?

Sometimes you have to look backwards to know you are going forwards.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

The Stampin’ Up! year finishes September 30 and I am so grateful. Grateful to still have a business. Grateful to still be working. Grateful to still be creating. Thank you for making it possible. Thank you for the laughs, cards, and encouragement when I saw things falling apart all around me. Thank you to the ones that call to check in and celebrate when things are good and give hugs when things are not so good.

So I am setting my goals for this next year and this is one of the first years that I am actually looking at possibly earning the trip. After 14 years I am looking at working my way up to the top 20% of the company. I would have never thought this would happen. Thank you!

My point is this…there is so much in this life to be grateful for. There is so much to look forward to. There are goals to set. There are the little things that matter. There are the big things that matter. Don’t let life weigh you down. You only get one shot at this life.

When heavy metal takes center stage.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today we are allowing heavy metal to take center stage. Don’t get your ear plugs or run away, there is no noise involved.

For today’s project we are taking the Brushed Metallic Card Stock and letting it be front and center. You will notice that there are three different colors to these papers…bronze, copper, and gold. With these papers you can use any color card base you want but the mat is important. For me the deeper the color the more the foils stand out. If it is a lighter color mat then it tends to lighten the foils as well. With the bronze this is great but with the copper and gold it tends to wash them out a bit. So pay attention to what mats you are using to bring out the colors in your focus piece.

Here’s the list of what you will need to complete this card.

  • Thick Very Vanilla Card Stock
  • Blackberry Bliss Card Stock
  • All 3 of the Brushed Metallic Card Stock
  • Scrap piece of card stock for the base behind the Brushed Metallic Card Stock
  • Scrap of Very Vanilla Card Stock
  • Blackberry Bliss Ink Pad
  • Celebration Tidings Photopolymer Stamp Set
  • Story Label Punch
  • Irridescent Pearls
  • Stampin’ Seal
  • Mini Glue Dots
  • Dimensionals
  • Cobwebs 3D Embossing Folder
  • Snips

When ribbon meets mummy.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

For today’s tip I will use the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack.

I don’t know about you but when I saw this ribbon I thought it should be a mummy wrap. So I cut a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock in the shape of a body and head. I then proceeded to wrap the card stock loosely with the woven ribbon from this combo pack. The ribbon is secured with Mini Glue Dots and then finished with two googly eyes.

You could easily unravel the ribbon a bit to give a more ragged look or sponge some Crumb Cake Ink so it didn’t look quite so clean. Nevertheless, here’s how a piece of ribbon becomes a mummy.

Coordinating with color.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Have you been asked to create a card for someone and you think to yourself I don’t have any squirrel stamps. How can I create this card without any squirrel stamps?

Here is your answer. Maybe instead of a squirrel you focus on the color, the acorns, or the puffiness of the tail. So instead of a squirrel you create a card with some texture to create the poof of the tail. Then maybe you “drop” a few acorns on the bottom of the card to create an oops like they were dropped or misplaced. And maybe the words say “a close up of our friendship. Thank you for being there to help me capture what I have dropped.”

Or if you are doing for a certain group maybe there is a color that goes with their logo. For example if I didn’t have a Marine Corps stamp then maybe the card would be scarlet and gold.

Sometimes you have to think past the actual image and see what is related to it.

Learning how long to rest.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and recharge for the week.

I came across this chart when looking for a new workout the other day.

For me there were a couple of things that stood out. One, make sure to rest not only at the end of a challenge or workout but also in the middle. Two, if you work harder then you need to rest longer. Three, as you get in better shape then your rest can be shortened. So keeping your rest and work in balance means you can do more with less strain and stress.

This is so true in life too. I know when I first started as a demonstrator a class once a quarter would stress me out. Now I can do several in a month with very little added stress. It’s all in what muscles you work, rest, and stretch.

What are you working on right now?

Do you remember?

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Today’s a bit different as it is 9/11. I have to say that this single day has changed my entire life. I’ll explain.

It was in the afternoon since I was living in Naples, Italy at the time. I was complaining a bit about not wanting to do my cardio at the gym and my husband was “encouraging” me to get started and get it done. I looked up to stall and see what was happening on the wall of televisions. Just then all of them went to the same picture. A plane hitting a tower. Then a bit later another. At that moment I knew my life was forever changed.

For the next few days it was complete lockdown. I don’t mean run to the store to get milk. I mean stay in your house and do not move and the military police made sure of it. Four days of this. Then it was constant inspections and barricades and questions for months on end.

Then came the moves. We moved five times in less than four years with two countries and three states involved. Throw in a deployment to Iraq too. It was all about the needs of the Marine Corps and the country. It didn’t matter if your kid was sick, having a baby, etc. The times he did come home he couldn’t remember which key was his house key since he hadn’t been home for so long. The mission was hyper focused on getting the country back on track and all other things didn’t matter.

And still to this day he is gone well before dawn to ensure that memorials still happen.

So where were you? How are we as a country ensuring that this is a better place for the next generation? It is time to start working together again to get the mission and the country back on track.

Turning a piece of blank card stock into a fiery blaze of autumn.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! We are doing magic today!

You are going to be able to create this card that goes from Very Vanilla Card Stock to this fiery blaze of falling leaves. This is not to be confused with the wildfires we have going right now.

For this card you will need a Thick Very Vanilla Card Stock card base, Early Espresso outer mat, Cajun Craze inner mat, and a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock for the center. You can glue down the outer and inner mat to the card base, but not the Very Vanilla piece for the center.

To create the masterpiece you will need the inks Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, and Early Espresso. Sponge all the colors randomly except the Early Espresso. Then stamp the trees with Versamark Ink and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. After the powder cools sponge Early Espresso Ink over top heavily. Tip: Wipe off excess ink with a paper towel if wanted.

To finish the card place your matted sentiment and for the encore attach your embellishments from the Holiday Rhinestones.
