My Snips are Everything

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Which tool do you use in a way that it is not supposed to be? For me it’s the Snips. I use the Snips for cutting, but also for poking little bits from a die and applying Mini Glue Dots.

Tell me in the comments which tool you use for more than it was intended for.

It’s Time for More than Christmas

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to give you a tip instead of a technique.

Make sure to get in your crafty space and create some all occasion cards. We have been so focused on Christmas that I don’t want you to forget your birthdays, anniversaries, etc. for the new year. They can be simple but you need a few all occasion cards so you don’t start the new year behind.

Cleaning Up Today

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

After a fun-filled year I am cleaning up and going through the studio. It’s what I do every year around the same time. I take inventory, figure out changes, and start planning for the new year.

So as I started cleaning I wondered why I do this. I mean obviously it needs to get done. But I started asking why I do it. Why does it make me feel better? Why is it part of my routine? Just why?

In order to answer this why I figured I should google it. And sure enough there is an article talking about how cleaning and mental health are connected. Here are some key points I took away.

  • Clutter leads to distraction and decreased focus.
  • A clean home usually signals good health.
  • A clean home usually means I have control of my possessions and my mental well-being.

Here are some tips on how to get cleaning.

  • Start small.
  • Set a timer.
  • Ask for help.

To read the entire article please go to https://www.verywellmind.com/how-mental-health-and-cleaning-are-connected-5097496.

And when I had moved too many times to count, had a little one, and just a mess I used the Fly Lady to get me back on track. Take a look at what she has to offer at http://flylady.net/.

Announcement!!!

I will no longer be offering the monthly online craft class.

Instead I will be doing an upgraded version of the YouTube Live. This will be a mini class of sorts. Each Monday the new Live will be announced and then on Wednesday evening will be the event. I will then offer to mail the materials so you can create the same projects. The deadline to pay online will be each Sunday and it will mail on Monday. You will be able to get all of the details and pay directly at https://stampingwithjoni.wordpress.com/diykits/. I am building the page right now so not much is on it but it is up to view.

This change will start in January.

For now…next week the 21st will be an unboxing video of the new products. This will be great for you if you miss Saturday’s Christmas party. And on the 28th I will take a break for the holidays.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sharing Traditions

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

One of the best things about this time of year is taking time to share your traditions with others. This is what makes living here in this country great. We get to share the different cultures, foods, and traditions. For me the tradition is to not go to a home empty-handed. Usually food is brought such as dried fruits, cheeses, jams, jellies, or something pickled. Some others do cookie exchanges. While others exchange ornaments.

I know this can be a super busy time of year but slow down enough to enjoy what makes each of us unique. And if you’re lucky enough to be close to someone that will share with you then take the time to enjoy.

Floating Cards

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to create a floating card.

Here are the measurements.

Floating Tree Card

  • Thick White Card Stock cut with the Paper Trimmer to 5 ½” X 8 ½”. Scored on the 8 ½” side at 4 ¼”. This is your card base.
  • Take scrap of Brushed Metallic 12” X 12” and cut large circle frame with Layering Circles Dies. Then emboss with Timber 3D Embossing Folder. Cut in half with Snips.
  • Take the size in between the circular gold frame and cut a semi circle out of the card base. Tip: Make sure that the cut-out is less than half of the circle so the gold frame will fit.
  • Cut a piece of fishing line or clear jewelry line approximately 6”. Attach with Mini Glue Dots to the edge of the cutout on the white card base.
  • Then after attaching the clear line attach the gold semi-circle over with Mini Glue Dots.
  • Then cut a tree twice to become the floating piece. Attach to clear line with Mini Glue Dots or Multipurpose Glue.
  • Then stamp sentiment with Versamark Ink, sprinkle with Gold Embossing Powder, and heat with Heat Tool.

Glue for Earring Backs

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Today I want to talk about hot glue.

So hot glue has so many uses. It can be used to stick things together or to make something on its own. But today I want to talk about how the glue sticks can be used before they are heated.

Imagine that I am crafting (I know, imagine that) and I have lost the back to my earring. I don’t have a pencil with a decent eraser so I can’t use that. But what do I have. I always have tons of hot glue. So I take out a mini stick and an exacto knife. I slice off a thin disc and then pierce a hole in the middle with my Take Your Pick Tool. And without much effort I have a new back to my earring.

Happy Crafting!
