Avoid or plow through?

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest or recharge.

Sometimes in order to get some peace and truly some rest you have to avoid situations that cause you stress. There are times you just need to go around and take a different road so you don’t end up on the section of the road that has the holes and the cliff running right up along side of it. Choose to go around. Choose to avoid the situation.

And sometimes you just need to plow through to get it done and checked off the list. Sometimes by avoiding the situation you are just stressing yourself out by procrastinating.

So how do you tell if you should avoid the situation or plow through? I often look to quotes to help me with this. I find a quote that speaks to me and then look at the author. Often who the author is and what they did speaks to me and then the quote becomes even more meaningful. Then I know to avoid or just get it done. So here’s a quote to leave you with.

“Don’t let what you can’t do stop you from doing what you can do.” — John Wooden

Sharing your paper.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Remember when your mother told you to share. So today I am reminding you to share. Have you noticed in all of our Designer Series Papers that there are at least two of each of the patterns? You could share one of them with a friend. If you don’t want to split the pack then buy two…save one and share one.

If you are into creating and don’t have that many crafty friends, instead of sharing paper share your creations. When you sit down to create a card make two. Mail one to someone that needs some happy mail.

Dividing papers and punches.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today is the day we have tutorials and a video for how to divide your monotonous patterns and how to use the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.

For starters you can use a thin piece of ribbon or paper to divide a pattern and break it up. This card uses the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper and the Early Espresso Faux Suede Trim.

The second card uses the new Lovely Label Pick a Punch to create the background.

Paper as ribbon.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Today I want to talk about the texture of things. When you use an embossing folder not only can it be a full background, but it can make things look like something else. For example, this piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock I have textured with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder as well as the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.

What I am attempting to do is show you the texture that an embossing folder can bring to a piece of card stock. These two pieces of card stock are going to be trimmed tonight to show how paper can simulate ribbon. Join me on the Facebook Live at 7 pm to see this. Don’t forget your monotonous pattern of Designer Series Paper, card base, two mats, scrap paper, punch, ink, and adhesive.

Split the paper.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today is the day that we split the paper somewhat literally.

I have taken the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper and picked my least favorite pattern out of the bunch. It is my least favorite since the little blue flowers or stars are all in a row. So I thought…how do I break this up? How do I keep this pattern from looking monotonous? The only way I figured was to break it up. So I laid a ribbon across it and it was enough for it to appear well coordinated instead of too repititive.

Please join me tomorrow night in creating a simple card. You will need a card base, mat, inner mat, some kind of repetitive patterned paper, ribbon (or other thin cut paper), adhesive, and scraps for a label.

Rest…in peace. It’s not just for the dead.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting and recharging.

I’ve often heard that rest is for the weak. Rest is for when you are dead. Rest in peace is often on a headstone. Just walk through a cemetery.

But today I want to talk about the fact that rest in peace is not just for when you are dead. It is also very befitting for when you are very much alive.

When your kids are little and you want to take a nap, do you get to? If you lay on the couch it is pretty hard to take a nap if a little munchkin is climbing all over you. Or worse that munchkin is out of sight and quiet.

Or when you lay down and your spouse or significant other wants to talk or ask you what’s for dinner. Or when your puppy is awkwardly bouncing all over the place.

My point is this…you need peace in order to rest or nap. So if you are trying to rest make sure the house and those in it are peaceful. Rest is so much sweeter when it is not trampled on.

Giving back by being present.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Since Father’s Day is Sunday I figured I would do a little tribute to my daughter’s father (and yes, my hubby). As my daughter turned 18 about ten days ago life seems to be flashing before my eyes. I am sure if you have grown kids you understand what I mean.

As an infant he would get up with her other and often fall asleep on the couch with her in her bouncy seat watching little einstein (classical music with animated brightly colored shapes). As she got older he taught her how to mow the lawn with a bubble mower and overalls. Over the years it has been physical things that he has taught (like driving a car) or modeling how a gentleman treats a lady.

I can’t imagine life without him. As life constantly changes he is definitely more flexible than me and has taught me resilience.

Who has helped you raise your kids? The neighborhood kids? Maybe you are the crazy aunt that buys ice cream at 3:00 to spoil their dinner. Whatever and whoever it is, I hope you have someone that supports you in this adventure.

Happy Crafting!

With inky fingers,

Joni 🙂
