Black magic and rainbows…

It’s Thursday and I am happy to show you a new way to use your embossing paste.  Let it dry like normal and then sponge color on top.  You can use a sponge, dauber, or even the sponge brayer.  Then cut your die in coordinating colors of cardstock.

Embossing buddy is not just for embossing.

So today we are going to explore how to use a product in a way it was not intended.  I am sure that you know the embossing buddy is used to take static out of paper or cardstock.  But, did you know, that the buddy can also be used to remove adhesive or sticky spots.  I would recommend having one for adhesive and one for static so as to not get adhesive gunk on your embossing work.

Punches are to elevate.

I hope everything is good with you and everyone is back to work or school.  Holidays always seem to give a good break to the routine, but in many ways mess up things too.  So, if you are feeling a little less than “ready to go” I can empathize with you.

For today we will be talking about how punches can not only take away but also create texture.  In this card I stamped the design and simply punched out an image (in this case a cat).  I then placed some dimensionals on the back and elevated the punch out.  You could also emboss this piece if you don’t want to stamp, but still want the punch to stand out.

Give this a try and see what you come up with.  Don’t forget to post pictures on the Facebook page so you can earn some reward points.

Is today a work day?

Most everyone has today off, but not all.  The military gates still need to be guarded, songs have to be recorded, and cards need to be created.  For me, I am putting some time in at the craft table today.  If you create today don’t forget to post photos on the Facebook page for reward points.

For this week there is Card Class.  Thank you to everyone that RSVP’ed.

Next week on the 16th I will be up at Yucca Valley United Methodist Church for their fair.

And on the 23rd I will be up at the Yucca Mesa Community Center from 10-10.

Last, but not least, is Serina’s class on the 30th.  This will include kids and we will be creating Halloween favors.  More details very soon.

How do you rest?

Today is my sabbath.  How do you rest?  Today will be finishing a load or two of laundry and then I am off to the local theatre to see a play.  Since it’s a holiday weekend are you taking tomorrow instead to put your feet up?  Just remember before you know it we will blink and things will change.  Enjoy life each day for what it brings.

Fridays are giving back…sometimes to our own.

Today’s post is a hard one to write.  I thought we were through the worst of things for awhile, but God has different plans.  Our sweet Merry has been going through it.  In the last two years she has lost her husband and one of her two daughters to cancer.  Just this week she lost her mom and has also had surgery on her eyes.  So I will be sending two cards, a sympathy and a get well.

Here is where you come in to the story.  I would like to mail her a whole bundle of cards.  I would like to bless her.  If you decide to create a card or cards for Merry you can address them to me and on the back side of the envelope just write “Merry” or “for Merry”.  I will be mailing out this package next Friday the 8th.

Please help me to bless one of our own.

Every mistake is just a creative opportunity…

There is no mistake in crafting.  There is an opportunity to make something new and different when the project does not go as planned.

So, earlier this week, I had sat down to create.  Everything was going as planned until I cut the ribbon too short.

It may not look like it is too short but when I put the sentiment over it the burlap ribbon disappeared completely.  I had a choice, toss it and cut a new one or figure it out.  I figured it out.

I cut that ribbon in half to extend it.

You would never know by the finished card that there had been an oops.

So, go stamp and remember to look at things sideways if you have to.  Sometimes that is what it takes to get the job done.

Sometimes backwards is the right way.

I was the kid that walked to school backwards just because I could.  And my Mom was saying the whole time “please turn around so you don’t trip and fall”.  Well, that was the first time.  By the end of the treck she was telling me somewhat forcefully to “walk right”.  Well, I didn’t die, trip, or even break a bone.  Now I am not saying to defy Mom, but I am saying that sometimes backwards is the correct way.

In the case of our glimmer papers backwards or upside down should be your only way.  Flip that shiny side down and then trim.  The glimmer (or glitter for some) dulls your blade on your trimmer much quicker than other cardstock.  (While I appreciate you ordering we don’t need to hurry the process.)  So flip it over next time.

An oldie with a twist!

Sometimes it’s good to go back to the basics and then put a tiny bit of a twist on it.  Today’s tutorial comes from SplitCoastStampers.  We have all done the shaving cream backgrounds, but have you done them with a stencil or die cut.  So, here’s something to try…

If you would like to try this in a class please comment and tell me.
