Thinking and doing…

Today is the day we focus on giving back or paying it forward.  I want you to think about something…what is the difference between thinking and doing?  One is internal and the other is external.  One involves something that happens passively and the other requires action.  I want to encourage you today to act on that thought.  If a friend pops in your mind then send a quick text or even mail a card.  Whatever it is take action!

And I as guilty of this as anyone else.  I have sat on this card until the season was almost over.  I have had it in my dropbox waiting for me.  This was the card I created on Wednesday for the Live.  So, don’t wait.  The moment may not come again.  Seize life!

Oh, before I go, you probably want to see this infamous card.

Orchids, accents, and blender pens.

We recently created an orchid card to coordinate with the paper potted orchids.  This card was a combination of quite a few techniques.  So I guess we should get started with a photo and then some directions.

20171127_222453_wm

First, figure out your words.  Depending on how large the sentiment is will depend on which way the card is oriented as well as how the rest of the card is laid out.  After you’ve picked your words you start stamping.  Grab your orchid builder stamp set and get your stem and some green ink.  Pear pizzazz was used here.  After stamping the stem then go ahead and stamp your largest flower or orchid.  Take the blender pen and pull the ink from the stamped image.  Continue on up (or over) until the card is full or you feel it is done.  Take your Big Shot or punch and create your hole.  After take a scrap piece of white cardstock (could be your punched image) and stamp your words and then punch.  Pop up with some mini dimensionals and stick.  Glitter enamel dots were added to accent.

Tear tape is for more than projects.

Sometimes you find a use for something that is not how it is supposed to work at all.  Did you know tear tape holds stamps together?

The other night I was stamping with a few crafters that had dropped in for a class.  The rubber decided to separate from the cushion of the stamp.  This set has been through the ringer.  It’s about 10 years old and gets used all the time.  Can you guess which set?  So I grabbed my tear tape and proceeded to tape or glue the stamp back together again.  Teeny tiny wishes is whole again.

So next time something comes apart at the seams ask yourself if there is something that can fix that.  Contact me if you are coming up against a wall.  But for now, I am back in the studio.

Holes can be accents.

Sometimes holes can be a great accent piece.  That peek into what is behind the scenes or that glimpse of that great paper you used for a background can sometimes be just what your project needs.

Sundays are for getting back on track.

I sit here and realize I ate too many cookies yesterday.  My body is saying too much sugar yesterday.  So today I get back on track.  I eat right, clean up from the Christmas party yesterday, and get moving again.  Yesterday was so much fun but I am glad all the preparations are behind me.

Thank you to all that came out yesterday!  I hope you had fun and maybe even won a prize.  I am so grateful for each and every one of you that came out.

Now for me, I am getting to mopping that kitchen floor with the powdered sugar glaze.

Giving back…

Today is the day that we focus on giving back or paying it forward.  If you are out shopping on this black Friday then maybe you tuck your elbows instead of using them. 😉  Maybe you sit down and mail all of those cards you’ve been meaning to send.  Maybe you just can’t shake someone that is on your mind so you call them.  Whatever it is get to it.

For me, today, it’s giving back to you.  So for the hours leading up to the Christmas party I will be posting a contest or something fun to do at noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm, 10 pm, midnight, 6 am, 7:30 am, and 9 am.  Each contest will have a prize you will have a chance to win.  And, each contest, will also earn raffle tickets for a chance to win one of two stamp sets.  Not only will there be giveaways, raffles, and Christmas cookies…but also FREE projects!  It’s not too late to let me know that you are dropping by tomorrow.

You do not have to be present to win, but you have to tell me you won before Monday night at 9 pm.  Those details will follow.

Turkeys, leaves, and feeling grateful.

Well, it’s Thanksgiving Day in the States.  That means for a bunch of us that the turkey is in the oven or getting ready to be dunked in the huge vat of oil (in my house).  Whatever you do be safe, have fun, and if all else fails go sit at the kids’ table.  I hear they don’t discuss politics there. 🙂

It also means that I am reminded just how lucky I feel to have this job of taking care of all of you.  I am grateful for every single one of you.  Thank you for being a part of this Red Door Crafters’ Group.  What started out with eight of us has grown into something more than I ever could have imagined.  We are at over 300 now locally.  Yes, 300.  (Now you know why I talk fast and go to the gym all the time.  I’m trying to keep up with everyone.)  Thank you.  I love it and wouldn’t change it.

So for today I thought it would be appropriate to do a photo tutorial of the project.  Enjoy!

Stamp the background (yellow photo).

Then cut the dies out to create the negative image.

The larger photo is of the finished card.

(If you don’t like the indents that the die leaves on the cardstock then the precision base plate is needed.)

Thank you again for being a part of this group!

Joni 🙂
