Pay it forward…where it started for me.

I had always been told to pay it forward.  It didn’t mean much to me except to be nice even when I didn’t feel like it.  But a few years ago one of the crafters gave me a book called The Tipping Point.  Have you read it?  If not, you might want to.

One of the points that hit home for me was that “ideas and product and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do.”  I had started to notice that I complained quite a bit and that was spreading.  And as it spread it also came back to me.  As I shifted my thoughts to be more positive, things became more uplifting.

Be careful what you’re putting out there.  It just might come back to you.

As we go about today be conscious of what you are putting out there.

Dragons and mirrors.

I just figured out an easy way to create a mirror image.  You will need a stamp, ink pad, cardstock, and your silicone mat.20180118_075151_wm

Next ink your stamp and then apply to your silicone mat.

Take your cardstock and set over image.  Make sure not to bump or move as this will result in a blurred image.  Rub to transfer the image from the mat to the cardstock.

Color and decorate as desired.  I used a blender pen with an overlay of wink of stella to color the dragon.

Music helps.

Have you felt that your creative mojo is gone?  Every time you sit down is your scrap mat still blank?  Change your environment.  Come to drop in times.  Change your scent in the warmer.  Turn your music up!  And sometimes, the hardest part, is to just get into your crafty area.  The laundry and the dishes are always calling.

For me the biggest change is to walk away from the chores and turn the music up.  What do you have to do to get your creativity flowing?

Tags are for more than bags.

Tags can be used for more than tying on a gift bag.  They can also be used as card candy (accent or embellishment pieces for cards).  So the next time you have a tag that doesn’t seem to go with anything make it a card!

Many definitions of rest.

Have you ever searched or googled the word rest?  So many different ideas of rest come up when doing this.

Someone wants to sell a mattress to get the best rest ever.

Someone wants me to go to their restaurant to have a break from cooking.

Someone wants me to go to their hotel to take a vacation.

The definition of rest is a bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities.  We often say this is sleep but it doesn’t always have to be.

I am resting today by getting my home back in order since I was teaching card class or at a friend’s birthday party yesterday.  I know it sounds funny but I don’t like having things undone in my home.

What are you doing today to rest?

And here we are again…

I can’t believe it’s Friday again.  This week has flown.  I have sent a few cards out this week with no purpose except to be happy mail.  It feels good.

I have to say this week has been a great week!  It’s Card Class week and I love getting together with you.  You feed my soul and fill me back up.  Thank you for coming out so I can continue to do what I love to do.

Have you focused on giving back or paying it forward?  Don’t wait!  Do it today.  Mail the card, make a phone call, …  It’s never too late until it’s too late.

If you have a cause that you would like cards sent to please comment so I can do some research.

If you have an organization that you would like craft supplies to be donated to please let me know that as well.

Boxes, favors, and sweets.

Today’s tutorial is brought to you by the Lots to Love Box Framelits.  So let’s jump in!

Pick your cardstock that you want to cut.  When using the die make sure the pattern you want facing out is facing up when being cut.  This will allow the score marks to be on the correct side.  Run two sets of the box die cut so you have both sides of the box.

Before you glue the box together with tear and tape or fast fuse make sure to put your window in if you would like one.

Glue the sides together and tuck your tabs, bottom and top.  You can add stickers, ribbon, or embellishments of your choosing.

Just a tip when picking candy to go inside…kisses are a little wider than the box.  You get a little bulge in your box.  So you might want to pick something that is not as wide as a kiss.

Here’s the finished ones from the video last night.  I will post a link to the video as soon as I can figure out how to save it.  Facebook is being a little bit difficult.

Stamp naked…

Do you think I have completely lost it?  I have not gone off the deep end.  And if I have, more than half of you are out here treading and floating with me. 🙂  Here’s what I am talking about when I say to stamp naked.

For those of you that prefer the clear mount stamps (I am starting to get there), please stamp naked.  Keep your sticker off the back of your stamp.  Draw a line, trace the image, whatever you have to do.  The stamps stick better to the blocks if they are “naked”.  And after a while and they begin to not stick as well make sure to clean them.  If all else fails take a chapstick with no tint and apply a little to your block.  This will “glue” your stamp on quite nicely.
