Sometimes it just takes an extra smile or a little bit of effort to make a lasting impression. This was the case about five years ago. One of our friend of a friend was having a hard season of life. We didn’t know her very well but could tell something was going on. Eventually it came to her birthday and it just seemed to be a horribly bad day for her. I didn’t know what to do. It didn’t seem I could help. But it wasn’t my turn to help.
As I sat and tried to think of how to help my husband was already half dressed and working his way out the door. He threw his kilt and a shirt on and was working on the seven twists for his laces of those ghillie brogues. Halfway out the door he blurts out “be back soon”.
On a side note for those of you that know Joel…this is not uncommon. He will often dart out of the house without me knowing what is going on. It’s just him and I’ve learned to accept it.
He heads up to the local college and shows up to the library (of all places) with bagpipes. He proceeds to play happy birthday and give a big squeeze to this girl having a hard time. Little did I know that she would become a friend for life over that simple gesture.
Here’s the moral of the story. You never know what kind of impact you will have. No matter how small but do something. So, go mail that card, share a smile, or even go play bagpipes (not recommended).
Happy Crafting!
With inky fingers,
Joni 🙂
