Self care is the best.

Every day you run like crazy.  You work, you cook, you clean, you run kids to practice…you get the idea.  Every once in awhile you need to take care of yourself.  No one else will.  So put down the planner and trade it for a good book or a trip to the craft room.  Today I will be spending some time in my craft room.  (Of course this is after I can see my two tables again.)

Relay for Life

Sometimes the way to give back comes to you.  This year Relay for Life is in 29 Palms.  If you feel like donating in cash or greeting cards please drop them off.  I will stop by on Saturday evening to bring any remaining cards to be signed for Girls Love Mail.  I would encourage you to stop by and hear for yourself how this event touches others.

This event brings back perspective on what life is about.  It’s people.  I am planning on going just before dark.  I don’t know if I will walk, but I will help people to sign cards.  And rumor has it that there will also be funnel cakes.  I’m not sure if they will still be there but I sure hope so.  There are also several bands playing that I know personally that I can’t wait to hear in the open (and not in my living room).

Sometimes showing up is more than half of the battle.  I don’t know about you but I intend to show up.

Be present in this life because you never know if that moment will come again.

Tape can look like a glaze.

Today’s card is easy and looks like it has an expensive glaze over it.  It’s just tape.  Yes, tape.  Here’s how to do it and what supplies you will need.

Supplies Needed

Whisper White Thick Cardstock for Base

Basic Black Cardstock

Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper

Pearlized Doily

Shimmery White Cardstock

Clear Mailing Tape

Stitched Shapes Framelits

Stampin’ Blends

Snail Adhesive

Dimensionals

Staz-on ink

Directions

Cut cardbase to 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches.  Score at 4 1/4 on the long side.

Glue with snail adhesive the black mat (5 X 3 3/4 inches) to the base.

Glue with snail adhesive the designer paper (4 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches) to the black mat.

Glue with snail adhesive the pearlized doily after cutting in half.

For the accent or focal piece:

  1. Ink with staz-on the stamp of your choice (Beautful You used here).
  2. Place clear tape over inked image and rub to transfer.
  3. Place tape on to shimmery white cardstock.
  4. Die cut with stitched shapes.
  5. Color with stampin’ blends.
  6. Place four dimensionals to the back, peel, and place.

Wax is useful.

With the new catalog beginning soon I want to remind you that some things are stiff when they are new.  So here’s a tip for you to take a birthday candle or a piece of unscented wax and use it for grease.  If your new ink pads are sticking or are too stiff for you then take a birthday candle and rub gently along where the pad slides.  This will make it easier to open and close.

Tape is for more than holding things together.

Have you ever thought to stamp on a piece of tape?  Me either.  Grab your staz-on ink and cleaner and get going.  You will need masking tape as well as clear mailing tape.

Ink your stamp with staz-on and then place your tape adhesive side down on top of the inked image.  Rub lightly.  Take the tape off and place on your mat or card.

For a complete tutorial and to see the finished cards please come back Thursday.

Resting by trying something new.

I don’t know about you but I often like what is familiar and what is comfortable.  I will find myself going to the same restaurant, sitting in the same booth (I prefer over a table), seeing the same waiter/waitress, and ordering the same thing.  It’s easy.  I don’t have to think.  But sometimes your brain or body gets stagnant and you need to try something new.

So, today we are watching a new movie…the Avengers.  And we are trying a new restaurant.  I will let you know how it goes.

Don’t be afraid to break up your routine and try something new.  It might be great.  Here’s to an adventure.

Have you tried something new recently?
