Knowledge is power.

It’s Friendship Friday!  This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.  I firmly believe that in order to give back we need to have knowledge which turns to wisdom.  I continuously read to keep myself on top of what is going on.

Recently I came across an interesting article in Success that lists out ways to be extraordinary.  Give it a quick read and maybe you will get some new ideas on how to give back.

Three textured cards.

It’s Tutorial Thursday!  Today I have three cards for you.  They are all done with the same products but in different ways.

The first card was done by running the white mat through the embossing folder and then laying the accent pieces over top.

The second card was done by gluing the accent pieces before running it through the Big Shot.  This gives the impression of it being all one piece or an inlaid effect.

The third card has no background texture but instead has texture only on the accent pieces.  (the foil pieces)

When paper is used as ribbon.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!  Today I am talking about ribbon and paper.  Did you know they are interchangeable?

When you run out of ribbon, or simply didn’t purchase any, then go to your Designer Series Paper stash.  Most of our papers are double-sided which allows for a mat and complementary accent piece which coordinate beautifully.  If you want texture then simply run your paper “ribbon” through a selected embossing folder.

A splash of color to bring out the detail.

It’s Technique Tuesday!  Our embossing folders add so much to the card with texture and depth.  Sometimes there is still a little bit more that is needed.  If you don’t have ribbon then use our Designer Series Paper.  Most of the papers are double-sided allowing you to cut a mat and then accent with the opposite side (as shown here).

Stay tuned on Wednesday night’s Live at 7 pm to see how this is done.

Resting by shopping?

It’s Sabbath Sunday and I am having a slow morning (thankfully).  While I don’t especially like shopping I know it needs to get done once in a while.  My daughter, Tara, is the same way.  If the fairy with the magic wand could magically make things appear she would do it.  But instead we will be doing a bit of running to find some new jeans for her.

While it is not too restful for me to shop I am choosing to look at the silver lining.  I get to spend time with her and probably have a yummy lunch too.  I know it won’t take long since it is not our favorite thing, but it is time together.  I don’t see her much with rehearsals, school, and friends.  Now that she is driving it is even less.

I don’t say this for pity, but instead to remind you (and myself) that it’s our perspective on things.  Instead of saying I “have to” I am now saying I “get to”.  It’s amazing how your attitude changes.

Is there something you need to shift your perspective on?

Giving back to our community.

It’s Friendship Friday!  This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.  Today’s post hits a little close to home.  Lori Cosgriff, a good friend of mine, is asking for volunteers.

Lori is President of the 29 Palms Food Pantry and is asking for volunteers to help run the pantry.  You can give as little time as an hour to days.  I know that whatever you say will be honored.  Lori is not only a friend but also a fellow crafter, philanthropist, and mentor.  If you can give some time please contact me so I can get you more details and in touch with Lori.  If you don’t have time but have a few extra dollars I will make sure it goes to the food pantry.

Some days a smile is enough and sometimes the call is to give of your time and/or money.  Please let me know how I can help you get connected with our community.

Faux Bokeh Card

It’s Tutorial Thursday!  Happy Thanksgiving!  Today’s technique requires a bunch of water and drying time.  It comes out different every time.  You will need aqua painters, some ink, dies, and a stamp for this.

Embossing Buddy to the Rescue

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!  You know that the Embossing Buddy takes the static out of paper so when you emboss the powder sticks where you want it to.  You also know that the Embossing Buddy helps to take off leftover stickiness from adhesive that has run a muck.  But, did you know that it can also help to release card stock?

When running a detailed die, especially, use the Embossing Buddy before putting the card stock down on the die.  Just pounce the buddy across the die and then place card stock as normal.  The chalk from the buddy will allow the die to release the card stock much easier.
