Masking with dies.

It’s Tutorial Thursday!  Dies can also be used to mask and create a background.  There is a little bit of finesse with it as you will see in the video when masking.  (You can’t forget that the die has been moved as you will cover what you just did.)  So here is the card I created with the new Snowflake Showcase available November 1.  (If you like this new product and want to be reminded as it becomes available please comment to let me know.)

Here is the video on how to create this card…Snowflake Video (https://youtu.be/uq-KPp3TaYY).

And if you want to learn in real life it will be available during the next Card Class.

Using dies for masking.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!  Did you know that you can cut something out from a die and then use it to mask or stencil?  Join me tonight on the Live at 7 pm as I do just this.

Accents are for more than just cards or tags.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!  Do you ever use a product in only one way and never think that it could be used for something else?  I often do this so please don’t think it’s only you.

Recently I was putting a bulletin board together and remembered that our Big Shot dies can also be used for big things, not just cards and tags.  I forget that the shapes can become pieces of a flag, flower, and so much more.  So, just a friendly reminder to think outside the box and ask if you don’t know what else to do.

Tufted Card Tutorial

Here are the directions for the tufted card that was created this week.

  1. Cut a piece of thick white cardstock at 4 1/4″ x 11″.  Score at 5 1/2″ on the 11″ side.
  2. Cut a piece of gold foil paper at 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  3. Grab a piece of whisper white cardstock from the scrap pile.
  4. Take the gold foil paper and run through the Big Shot with the Tufted Embossing Folder.  Make sure to line up the paper with the line on the folder.  The front of the folder is where the words “Sizzix” are.
  5. Stamp the scrap piece of cardstock with Berry Burst.  The lace background is stamped off once to create a lighter color.  All stamps are from the host set called Very Vintage.  (If you would like this set please contact me to host.)
  6. Run the white scrap through the Big Shot with the label die from the Stitched Labels Framelits dies.  These coordinate with the Very Vintage stamp set.
  7. Use snail adhesive to attach the gold foil to the white base.  Use dimensionals to attach the sentiment to the gold foil.20180702_123543_wm.jpg

Backgrounds become texture.

Sometimes adding a little bit of a background can make all the difference in the world.  It can make a dull card or accent become an amazing piece.  For this tag I used our new Stitched Labels Framelits Dies and the coordinating stamp set.

Pieces and parts.

Last night we had a good time at the Encouragement Class.  Not only did we create encouragement cards for cancer patients, but we had a good time doing it.  And through everything I learned something.  Take the pieces and parts of everything.

A leaf punch becomes a flower’s stem after snipping the leaves off.  A tulip is created with a couple of dies in the shape of hearts.  Let your imagination run wild.  You never know what can be created.

Dies as embossing folders.

Did you know that your dies can also act as embossing folders?  You can get it to where they leave an image but don’t cut.  So that envelope can have a matching imprint to your cut card.  Here’s how:

Make your sandwich for embossing folders instead of dies.  Take out the adapter plate or go to the second tab.  Then under the envelope and die add the silicone mat which will provide enough cushion so the die won’t cut.  This can also be done on cardstock.

So your sandwich will be from bottom to top…big shot, standard base with no adapter or on tab 2, cutting plate, silicone mat, envelope or cardstock, die of choice, and cutting plate.
