When pieces become the main attraction.

You’ve heard the phrase one man’s trash is another’s treasure?  Well, in this case, the scraps become the main attraction.  I was recently cutting out some labels from the Stitched Seasons Framelits and realized that one of the leftovers was very cool looking.  I needed to save this piece and make it an accent for a card.

Tune in tonight on the Facebook Live event to see what this becomes.

Mistakes become a new technique.

Yesterday as I was stamping quickly I messed up.  Instead of making precise and calculated measurements to not overlap with what I had just stamped, I stamped almost half of my stamp over what was already there.  At first I got frustrated, but then I looked at what I did.  Then I liked it.  My overlay became almost that of a plaid pattern.

Don’t forget to even look at your mistakes.

A packed week.

Since last week was slow I guess we are making up for it this week.  Are you ready?  Because here we go.

On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (twice) is Card Class!  Let me know when you are coming!  RSVP’s are still open for Thursday and both sessions on Saturday.

On Tuesday evening is National Night Out.  If you want to look around or have a card for Penny you can find me at the Walmart parking lot.

On Wednesday night is our time for Facebook Live.

On Thursday evening a bunch of us are going to Alice in Wonderland to support one of our very own’s daughters that is playing the part of Tweedle Dum.

And thankfully, I think, that is all!

The calm before the storm.

Have you ever looked at your calendar and almost held your breath because you see everything coming?  That is this week for me.  It always seems to get very busy right before school starts.  Band Camp, Card Class, National Night Out, Alice in Wonderland, and probably a few other things thrown in for good measure.  They are all good things, but they are all this week.

So what do you do to prepare yourself for a busy week?  Is there a “lucky” routine you do to help get through the week?  For me I plan, eat well, work out, and keep focused.  So tomorrow there will be some planning and some cutting.

The main change lately has been shifting my focus or perspective.  I am no longer saying that “I have to do…”.  I am now saying that “I am choosing to do…” or that “I get to do…”.  It’s amazing what power words have on your attitude and often your outcome.

Share your magic formula in the comments to stay focused.

Cards and a wash.

Penny is recovering but still has a bit to go.  I am putting together a care package for her by mid next week.  This means cards and gift cards for dinner.  They usually go out so I thought gift cards for places that deliver or have curbside service would be good for hubby to pick up.  That way something would be “normal”.  If you would like to bring a card or contribute to the gift card basket simply let me know.

Here is the schedule.

I will be up at Yucca Valley High School today from 9:30-11:00 am.  If you bring at least a card I will give you a ticket to get your car washed by the kids for FREE.  This is my way of giving back to you and saying thanks.  I have 4 tickets, so the first 4 gets a clean car.

On Tuesday I will be up at the Yucca Valley Walmart for National Night Out from 5-7:30.  You can bring your cards or contributions then.  Sorry, no car wash.

Thanks for being part of this crazy crafty family.

Giving back to the ones who least expect it!

When you are cranky, hot, hungry, and tired where do you go?  I go to the drive-thru and grab a burger, taco, coffee, whatever.  Have you stopped to thank whoever is delivering your food or energy to keep going?  I would encourage you to grab a handful of balloons, a card, some flowers (paper ones work too), whatever encouragement and hand it to whoever is handing you your order.  I would love to see the faces of those unsuspecting employees that work so hard.

Here’s just another idea on how to give back or pay it forward.  What’s your idea?

When wood becomes swiss cheese.

Today’s card has a certain tang to it, much like when you bite in to a good slice of cheese.  Here’s how this one was created.

The card base is from Soft Suede Card Stock cut at 5 1/2 ” on the 11 ” side.  It is scored at 4 1/4″.

The Very Vanilla mat is cut at 5 ” x 3 3/4 “.

The Wood Texture background is punched from circle punches 1/2″, 1″, and 1 3/4”.

The tree is stamped and die cut from the Rooted in Nature bundle.

The “thank you” comes from the new In Season bundle also stamped in Old Olive.

Remember to use the middle.

Just a little reminder that if you have a double mat and the second mat is solid then don’t be scared to make some holes.  Take a few punches out of the bottom mat so you can save paper and time later.  Just remember to keep your punches organized or it won’t be much help.

Different sized punches for a background.

You can grab a few of the same shaped punches or dies to create a background.  Just make sure to have varied sizes.  In this case I used circle punches.
