Getting to what is inside.

The difference between cheap cardstock and quality is easy to tell.  You need to rip a corner off or take some bleach to it.  This will allow you to reveal the inner core.  Cheaper cardstock is often not dyed all the way through so the core has a white color instead of being consistent allContinue reading “Getting to what is inside.”

How to emboss on foil cardstock.

Dry embossing on foil cardstock can be a little tricky unless you like the cracked, distressed look.  I found to take at least one of the cutting plates out of the stack or sandwich and shim it with a few pieces of cardstock works the best.  Basically when you start to push the stack throughContinue reading “How to emboss on foil cardstock.”

Embellishments as the focal point

On a card there is usually a focal point.  There is usually something that catches your eye.  It can be a technique, a decorative paper, movement, or even something as simple as an embellishment.  For this card the technique is fairly simple except that the “o” is heightened by an embellishment also known as aContinue reading “Embellishments as the focal point”

Orchids, accents, and blender pens.

We recently created an orchid card to coordinate with the paper potted orchids.  This card was a combination of quite a few techniques.  So I guess we should get started with a photo and then some directions. First, figure out your words.  Depending on how large the sentiment is will depend on which way theContinue reading “Orchids, accents, and blender pens.”

Holes can be accents.

Turkeys, leaves, and feeling grateful.

Well, it’s Thanksgiving Day in the States.  That means for a bunch of us that the turkey is in the oven or getting ready to be dunked in the huge vat of oil (in my house).  Whatever you do be safe, have fun, and if all else fails go sit at the kids’ table.  IContinue reading “Turkeys, leaves, and feeling grateful.”

Negative space can be a positive.

Sometimes the negative speaks louder than the positive.  This is true in stamping also.  In this case I took the smaller leaf from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies and created a background.  Don’t be scared of the negative.  Sometimes if the negative is used correctly it becomes a huge positive. Coloring on vellum.

The new Stampin’ Blends are awesome!  They dry while coloring on vellum.  Finally, something that dries without having to heat set.  And there is enough color to block the adhesive.  Take a look at the Facebook Live that has been uploaded to YouTube for a full tutorial. Embossing paste…to sponge or mix?

When using the embossing paste do you sponge color on after or mix it in to the paste?  My answer, as always, it depends.  It depends on what kind of color you want.  Do you want really vivid, deep color or just a splash?  For really deep color you want to mix some of yourContinue reading “Embossing paste…to sponge or mix?”
