Stamping With Joni and the Red Door Crafters

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to talk to you about watercoloring in detail.

Sometimes when we watercolor it goes towards backgrounds or eclectic layouts. Well today I want to show you how to watercolor in detail. So I have taken the fine tip of the Water Painters and filled the barrel with water. I then dropped about 4 drops each of the ink colors Magenta Madness, Bumblebee, and Just Jade on to a clear block.

I then dripped one or two drops of water from the brush tip on to the chosen color. When coloring I went to the center of the image and just barely dropped the color. After I moved the ink as I wanted with the brush being careful to not add any more water or ink.

The stems and some of the detail is difficult to see in the photo. When I first stamped the image I did it with the Versamark Pad and then embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then a quick zap with the Heat Tool and I was ready to color or paint.

It’s Management Monday! Here’s what’s happening this week.

I have Open Day sessions today! I have one opening in the morning and both for the evening. This will be the last Open Day by RSVP. Please read further down for more details.

My office hours continue to be Monday – Saturday from 9:30 am – 7:30 pm and I am only closed on Sundays.

I have canceled the Spring/Easter Class for this Saturday the 27th. I have had a few too many things going on.

For my Crafters please save the date for Card Class happening on Thursday, March 11 in Yucca Valley or on Saturday, March 13 in Twentynine Palms.

There will also be Bingo on Saturday, March 27. It will have a birthday theme and will be an in-person event.

And last, but not least, if you haven’t heard…I am lifting restrictions for my classes and Open Day starting March 1. Let me explain. So the maximum capacity for a class will go back to 12. You will still have your space and your own snips and adhesive. I have also re-formatted classes so that each table will work on a project at a time. This means we can have two rooms going with still minimal wait times and virtually no sharing.

This also means that Open Day is once again truly open (starting March 1)! I am not requiring RSVP’s and there will be no invitation to go out. You will only need to tell me that you are coming if you would like me to have something specific out for you. There will be reminders and you can drop in for a minute or the entire two hours.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I have to say this has been a challenging week. The mountain was tall but I can almost see the top (until the next one). My daughter moved out for college this week. Do I need to say more? Many of you know already. And many of you have gone through the same thing so you really do know.

So I do have to say thank you. Thank you for the extra prayers, the thoughts, texts, calls, etc. Your touches were truly felt.

But now I have something different to ask. When you create a card for Easter or whatever could you send an extra one to a college kid? Please contact me if you would like her address.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Usually I would have a tutorial but I have to say that things have been a bit up in the air lately. You see my only daughter moved away yesterday. She found her own apartment and is off to college. So forgive me for no tutorial. Instead I want to share a hidden gem with all of you.

So you know that I get my ideas from everywhere. Here are just a few of the places I look for those cute creations.

It’s Wacky Wednesday! This is the day where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Today we are talking about starting those spring or Easter cards. And, let me guess, you haven’t ordered much yet for Easter. Well, believe it or not, I am right there with you. I have a couple of sets but I am not quite ready. (That’s what next week is for.) So instead of panicking, let’s take some of what we already have and re-purpose it. That is what you thought I was going to say, right? 🙂

Many of you have purchased the Double Oval Punch. Did you know that the scallop can double as an edge of a cracked egg? So let’s punch the egg from the straight-edged oval, cut the egg in half (or a third and two thirds), and then punch the “cracked edge” with the scallop. Tip: You might need a post it note to get that small half of the oval lined up in the punch.

Isn’t that cute?

It’s Technique Tuesday! Do you know how to create a border with little effort?

Grab your stylus and go around the edge of your die cutout to create a raised edge or border. You will want to leave the card stock in the die to more easily create that bump. One other tip is to grab your pierce mat to provide some cushion to get a more in depth image.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting so you can be recharged for the week.

As I sit here typing this blog I am also thinking about a million things. My mind wanders off about what I need to get at the grocery store, what is needed to start the next semester of college for my daughter, and where Joel (hubby) is next week when I have a dental appointment. I try to reel my thoughts back in so I can finish writing, but I am having trouble focusing. I am reminded that I need to block some time off to relax.

Relaxing will allow my brain to reset. It will bring things back to focus again. The distractions will melt away. I am reminded that I need to rest as the knots in my shoulders kink up just a bit more.

Sometimes before resting a massage is in order. Sometimes you need help breaking down the stubborn things in life before you can let go.

What needs to be broken down or simplified for you so you can truly rest and relax?
