Resting to find calm.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and recharge so the rest of the week goes smoother.

Have you ever watched a little kid fight their nap? The little one is crying and carrying on about not needing to sleep as the dark circles under their eyes scream a different story. Do we carry on about resting or taking a day off much like a little one?

Did you know that if you rest your blood pressure goes down? With all that you get a sense of calm that overtakes you. You are able to think more clearly and make better decisions.

So why wouldn’t you want to rest? As I sit here and type it seems silly to say that someone would not want to rest, but indeed it happens.

“I’ll lose my train of thought. I will lose my momentum. I’m almost done.” And on it goes.

Next time you start to feel antsy block some time to rest. It might be what your body and mind needs to bring back calm.

Giving back locally.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

As this lockdown of certain businesses being closed continues I want to urge you to pick up the phone. Without a little bit of effort some of your favorite small businesses might just disappear for good. Show them that you are still here for them, not just waiting for things to get better.

Call your hairdresser and ask for products or a gift certificate. Call your local bar and see if they have your favorite cocktail to go. Do your kids on Christmas day usually go to the go karts? Get a certificate for a later date. Without our support many of these places will close for good.

I say this because we went to get something screen printed for a Christmas gift and our favorite shop was closed. Phone was disconnected and the lock was on the building. No communication, no nothing.

So if you have a favorite place to get your favorite drink, smoothie, burger, embroidery work, whatever…show them! Stop waiting for things to get better. For many, if we wait, things may not come back.

Happy Crafting!

With inky fingers,

Joni 🙂

P.S. This is not about me. I am not in jeopardy of closing. But several places are close to shutting. Be kind and show your support.

Embossing in different ways.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you two different ways to emboss and talk about the traditional way.

The traditional way is to ink your stamp with the Versamark Ink, stamp, sprinkle with powder, and then heat. Usually in this way you get your color from the powder.

The second way is to stamp with the Versamark Ink, then go directly into whatever color you want, sprinkle with clear powder, and then heat. (the photo on the left)

The third way to emboss is to grab a piece of colored card stock (in this case Bermuda Bay). Stamp your sentiment with Versamark Ink, sprinkle with clear powder, and then heat. Then go over the entire piece with a black marker (brush tip side). This results in the picture on the right.

If you try this technique please leave your photo of your project in the comments.

What a black marker can do.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Did you know that a marker can be used to color our card stock? Of course you did! But, did you know that little marker can change the entire look of your card?

Here is a card with embossing done in two totally different ways and one way is to use a black marker to create an intense background.

Please watch at noon on http://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni to see how all of this is done.

Wink of Stella to the rescue!

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today we are using Wink of Stella to bring rescue to a dull project.

So grab your card you can’t figure out what else it needs and add some Wink of Stella. Sometimes just a touch of glitz is all it needs.

In my case this poinsettia was flat and a bit boring (although pretty) and needed an extra oomph. So I grabbed my Wink of Stella and started adding a bit. Now look at that shine and brilliance to that card.

Come on out on Saturday, December 19 from 10-4 to enjoy a Christmas party! There will be raffles, projects, Christmas cookies, the new catalogs, and (of course) Christmas presents. As always all in attendance need to be Crafters, over the age of 16 years old, and will have no mess to clean up. This is not a true Open House style as I will need you to reserve your hour and a half block that you will attend. Each block will have no more than four in attendance at a time.

Below are the block times to choose from:
10:00 am – 11:30 am
12:00 pm (noon) – 1:30 pm
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

You can reply to this event, the Facebook one, message, text, email, or call to reserve your time block. If you miss your time block please contact me to schedule another time. Thanks for being flexible this year! See you on Saturday!

Knowing when to rest.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on rest and recharging for the week.

My Aunt and Uncle were farmers up in Delano (near Bakersfield). I remember one summer that I went up with my Grama to help with the harvest. Part of their crops were grapes. The fruit was tested for sugar content and then it was determined if they would go to the winery or to be dried for raisins. There was plenty of work to be done while the ripeness peak was crested. Not only were we working against the clock before the product went bad, but we were also battling the birds overhead.

So, what’s my point? You don’t rest while there is a field waiting to be harvested. You get your work done and then you rest. And then while you rest the field rests so when you plant again the yield is better than before.

So, are you in a period of harvesting or resting?

Stories remind you that you have lived.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

When disaster strikes and the car quits, the house burns down, a spouse falls ill, or so many other things…who do you call? Who is the person you make sure to connect with? Often just by connecting with that special someone things seem to get better or seem more manageable. Is it your spouse, a good friend, family…?

Here’s to staying connected.

Happy Crafting!

Joni 🙂
