It’s the little things.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I was asked recently by a friend how I am keeping a positive attitude in the midst of all the turmoil. I hadn’t really thought about it. My response was because “it matters”. Every little thing matters, including you.

When I check out of the grocery store, say hello to a friend, or simply be in the presence of other people…it matters. I am reminded of the book called The Tipping Point. A whole town was changed by one person’s small, but consistent, actions.

I don’t know who it matters to but I know it does. Here’s to making a difference, no matter how small, one smile at a time.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I will show you how to create a beach or landscape scene without leaving your home all while blending in.

For this project you will need a card base, outer mat, inner mat, and adhesive. You will also need a bunch of ink pads and the new Blending Brushes.

Peeling off the layers.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Today we are talking about scotch tape. You know the kind you use to tape packages together. I know it’s not from the Stampin’ Up! world but it helps in this world.

So I take a piece of the Golden Garden Designer Specialty Acetate and I need to peel the film off. Did you know there was a piece of film? In order to protect the foil and not have it scratched in shipping there is a piece of film on the back or silver side. This runs the entire length of the 12X12 page.

Sometimes you can simply find a part that is bubbling up and peel. But if everything is still flat then it is difficult to find an edge to start with. Instead grab a piece of scotch tape and on one side fold it back on itself. This is to create a tab to hold on to. Then place the sticky portion on the silver side. Rub a little to get it adhered. Then slowly begin to pull.

Adding color to ribbon.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Here’s a quick tip on how to not break the bank with ribbon.

Have you ever felt like you need everything to coordinate, get everything in your cart, and realize that your card for your uncle is now costing you over $90? Well, here’s one way to cut a corner. Buy a neutral ribbon (vanilla or white) and grab your Stampin’ Blends.

Instead of buying every color under the sun of ribbon to coordinate just buy one or two spools of a white or vanilla. I say two because you might want a lacy one and maybe a more plain one. Then grab your Stampin’ Blends and get to coloring. Open that marker and use the brush tip to get in all those woven spaces. Let dry a couple of minutes and you now have coordinating ribbon.

Tip: Make sure to have a scrap mat or paper down when coloring.

The process of restoration.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and recharge for the week.

Have you ever felt like the process of getting true rest was a ton of work? You have so much preparation to do so you can take a day off. Or maybe mentally you have a bunch to sort through before you are truly at peace. I look at spiritual restoration to get to peace very similar to much of any other restoration project.

I am not much of one for painting as of yet but I have restored classic cars. The first part of the project is determining how much work there is to be done by taking a good look at the shape of the project. Then it’s time to pull everything apart, clean, and sand everything down to the bare metal. After that then you start building everything back up. You prime and paint. Sometimes you put new carpet, floor mats, and seats in. Whatever you do you have to go back to the bottom and peel off all those layers of old paint.

So what do you need to tear down to the basics so you can get true peace? Sometimes you have to put work in before you can truly rest.

Sale-A-Bration is almost half over!

It’s Sale Saturday! Sale-A-Bration is almost half over!

Have you seen the Darling Donkeys yet? The Ombre paper? What’s your favorite? For me, it’s hard to choose. It really depends on the day.

But I do need to remind you to not wait to order. Sale-A-Bration this year is only through the end of February, not March. Yes, it changed this year. But don’t feel short changed. We only have Sale-A-Bration from January through February because we also get to Sale-A-Brate again in July and August. That’s right. Another whole time to Sale-A-Brate.

This also changes the brochures. There is only one brochure, not a second or even third. There will be an additional flyer with two new stamp sets with coordinating dies starting in February, but not a whole other brochure.

So if you would like to order please use host link https://www.stampinup.com?hostcode=JZRX29E7 through Monday night at 7:30 pm.

Time passes without effort.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Did you notice with your good friends that know you well that time passes effortlessly? It just seems that time flies. And with those you don’t care for especially the time just drags on and on.

I have had this recently. Since things tend to be more shutdown I spend more time on the phone checking on friends than before. The ones that are closest to me it seems I can talk to for hours and it only seems like the blink of an eye.

Do you have someone like that? Do you have someone that makes time pass so fast that the memories seem to just stack up?

I hope you do. And if not I hope you find someone that helps time pass quickly.

How color influences everything.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today’s tutorial is a bit different in that I want to talk to you about how color changes things.

Way back when I was in college studying marketing we talked about color. We talked about how certain colors bring certain moods, actions, or calm. Blue tended to help calm while reds, oranges, and yellows were more for alerting or creating action. The same is true when you create. White tends to lean towards elegance, neutrals lean towards masculine, and pastels tend towards spring or feminine.

For today’s creation you will need:

  • card base
  • mat with color
  • scratch card stock for pennant with sentiment
  • scratch white card stock to stamp floral accent
  • adhesive

Color makes all the difference.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Today it is not so much about a product but instead about color. I am amazed at how much color influences our decisions.

Way back when I was in college I had to take a marketing class. In that class was the science and psychology of color. We read and discussed what color can do.

For example when you are decorating your home the dining room is usually a red or brighter color. This is supposed to help with appetite. While the living room is a more calm color such as off white, light blue, or gray.

The same goes for advertising. When an ad wants you to take action the colors are usually brighter (yellows, reds, or oranges). And when they want to promote calm it is much more mellow of a color like blue, green, or white.

So why am I talking about all this? Here’s why. When you create a card and you are creating for a female you tend to have more pastel colors, pinks, or purples. For a masculine card you tend towards the black, white, grays, blues, and greens.

In the image below it is the exact same card but with a different color. It’s amazing how different each card looks by just changing the color.

To see how these cards are created and for a foil bonus please join me tonight at 7 pm for the Live on the Facebook page.
