Changes for Card Class

The beginning of the year is coming soon and this is when I make my changes for the year for classes, events, etc. (unless of course we get shut down). So I wanted to tell you what’s happening to Card Class. It is not going away so don’t panic, but it is evolving.

Card Class is becoming Craft Class starting in January. The cost is not changing so don’t worry. I think this is the only thing that hasn’t gone up this year. 🙂 It will still be $15 for Crafters, but it will now be $10 for Team Members. Team Members as well as Crafters can attend a craft fair to get a door prize voucher allowing them to take $5 off. If you would like it “to go” it is simply the same fee schedule as it is in person.

What is changing? I am glad you asked. Let me explain. In order to keep the cost and the timeframe the same there may not always be three projects. Sometimes there may be more and sometimes less. The class will also center around one collection, suite, or bundle. That way, you can see what variety of projects you can create using the same set. There will always be at least one card but I am also hoping to explore 3D projects, organizers, tags, pockets, albums, and more. Papercrafting has so much more to offer than the two dimensions that cards give us.

I will purchase two bundles to avoid a huge wait time during the class. One of the bundles will be purchased long before to make the samples and the second one will be added to the host code. This will allow the host to have a bit of a running start in collecting orders to get to the magical $150 mark in order to earn free items.

The second bundle will be for sale at Catalog Price with no shipping or tax added as it will be slightly used. It will first be offered to the host. If the host declines or does not respond by a predetermined deadline, it will then be offered to others in the following order: Class Attendees, VIP’s and Team Members, and then finally to all Crafters. All of this will be arranged in a separate email prior to the class. Pick up or delivery will be coordinated after the class is finished. This is only one of the benefits to changing the class. Keep in mind that should this second bundle get “spoken for”, you are still more than welcome to purchase your own separate bundle from the current Catalog!

So why am I making these changes? Great question! In its current configuration, Card Class has a list of supplies used that is usually well over $150 on its own. Simplifying the class to a bundle of products (typically around $50) will allow many crafters to enjoy the class either: 1. In Person using the bundles provided, 2. To Go with their own purchased bundle, or 3. at a Monday Open Session. As previously stated, how Card Class is currently set up is simply not feasible to do outside of the Studio. Restructuring to bundles will allow flexibility to participate for those who can not make the in-person class.

Thank you for being patient as the Events, Classes, and Supplies of the Red Door Crafters’ Studio continue to evolve and adapt. I hope you all will enjoy this new version.

If you have any questions or feedback please feel free to contact me.

See you at Craft Class! Please save the date for the first Craft Class for the new year on Thursday, January 13 or Saturday, January 15.

Sabbath Mode

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

Did you know that some appliances come with a sabbath mode? If it gets pressed nothing works until it is turned off. Do you need a sabbath mode?

I know for me if I don’t take Sunday to re-group and slow down the rest of the week seems so chaotic. What do you do to re-set?

Here are some benefits to taking a minute to re-group.

  • You gain physical strength and clarity of mind when you have slept enough. Take a nap…it’s good for you.
  • Your emotions don’t get away from you if you have taken the time to be still and process things.
  • And last, but not least, I need time to be close to God.

Giving back by being honest.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I love the fact that I have people in my life that are brutally honest with me. I know exactly where I stand with them and I know that whatever question I am asking them will get an honest reply.

Do you have a friend or friends like that? You know you will get an upfront answer from them and not have to wonder where you stand or where they do.

This is an example of a great and deep relationship full of trust.

Did you have a friend that comes to mind as I talk about this? Then you might want to send a card, call them, …something… to show your appreciation.

Stamping on Designer Series Paper

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to stamp on your Designer Series Paper.

For this project you will need:

  • a card base measuring 4 1/4″ X 11″ scored at 5 1/2″ on the 11″ side
  • an outer mat of Bermuda Bay Card Stock measuring 5 1/4″ X 4″
  • an inner mat of Sweet Stockings Designer Series Paper measuring 5″ X 3 3/4″ stamped with stars from Tidings & Trimmings Photopolymer Stamp Set in Bermuda Bay Ink.
  • punched accent in Basic White Card Stock from the Everyday Label Punch stamped with a sentiment from the Tidings & Trimmings Photopolymer Stamp Set in Bermuda Bay Ink.
  • White Crinkle Seam Binding that is colored with a Blending Brush and Bermuda Bay Ink. My tip would be to leave a tiny section unlinked so you can hold on to the ribbon without getting tons of ink on your fingers.
  • and last, but not least, attach the Blue Adhesive-Backed Gems.

Looking at your punches from all angles.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Did you know that you can use just the side, bottom, or top of a punch? In this case I used the Elegant Punch, Everyday Label Punch, and Tailored Tag Punch to create different ends to my paper. The Tailored Tag Punch can do double duty as it is similar in shape to the retired Triple Banner Punch.

What punch will you look at differently today?

When you create a project from this tip please post a photo of it on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

Playing a song on your card.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Do you have someone musical in your life? Or do you just want to see if they catch on?

For today’s technique I want to encourage you to go find music for your card. I am not talking about the voice or recordable boxes, I am talking about sheet music. Just one of the thousands of sites is https://www.musicnotes.com/. You type in a song and it gives you several versions that you can print out. What a great background this makes.

When you create with this technique please post your finished project on https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

Exfoliating your schedule.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

Do you have a skincare routine? Do you periodically exfoliate your skin? What is the purpose of exfoliating? From what I understand the purpose is to take off the dead layers of skin so that your skin glows and doesn’t have a dull look to it. And now you’re probably wondering how this relates to a schedule.

Sometimes you have to exfoliate your schedule. When looking at how to scrub your schedule to reflect your priorities I went to the expert, Stephen Covey. In the article talking about the difference between prioritizing your schedule and scheduling your priorities here are some points that spoke to me.

  • Ask yourself how important the task is. Is it urgent or important or both or neither?
  • Should the task be delegated?
  • Does the task even need to be on the list at all?

When looking at a task and how much you get done in a day to accomplish your goals, you have to look at whether you are being efficient or effective with your time. “Efficiency is doing things right; Effectiveness is doing the right things.” (Peter Drucker) Where is your focus…being effective or efficient?

As I have gone full time with Stampin’ Up! and added more events I have been forced to look at this. My daily to-do list has definitely shifted in the last five years. Has yours as your life changes?

Well, I think I have rambled on long enough so I will leave you with a quote that has changed how I think about what is on the dreaded calendar.
