Finding out who gives back and where.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Imagine yourself needing or wanting something. You walk into the building or website and you begin to shop. When you’re finished you check out and then you begin to wonder. “Where does this company spend their profits?” “Am I helping or hurting my own beliefs by supporting them?”

There are so many ways to find out where the money goes. You can look up that company and request their financials. This is probably the most cumbersome way of going about this. There are so many sites reporting on specifically this that I don’t know how anyone can do anything without someone knowing about it.

Just to give an example, I googled “corporations that give back”. There are pages and pages. One article stood out. Tony Robbins is a life coach for mental, physical, and career well-being. He wrote in this article about AirBnB, SoulCycle, Starbucks, Salesforce, and Patagonia to name a few. I would encourage you to read the article at https://www.tonyrobbins.com/giving-back/companies-give-back/.

I would also encourage you to do a simple internet search for “does (company name here) give back?”. There is so much information out there it is hard to not get overwhelmed. But please, if it’s important to you, look it up.

How to emboss resist.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to emboss resist.

Do you remember those pictures you did as a kid or maybe your kids did with the crayons and watercolors? You colored with crayon where you didn’t want the paint to soak in.

Well, today, we are doing almost the same thing. We are taking card stock and embossing powder to create a resist and then applying ink.

For a complete video on this technique please go to https://youtu.be/w9jqnTc8290. When you comment before Tuesday the 12th you will also get full written instructions.

Chalk marker to the rescue.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Did you know the chalk marker has many uses?

  • It can be used to write on the inside of a card with a dark base.
  • It can be used to highlight the edge of a stamped image to make it pop from the paper.
  • It can be used to create its own image by drawing or creating with little points.
  • It can be used to add a whitewash to an image.
  • It can be used on a chalkboard sticker or sign. And it can be erased or taken off with a magic eraser.

What other uses can you think of for this chalk marker?

Mirror image.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Do you ever wish you had those leaves you just die cut facing the other way? Well, there’s a way to do just that.

You will want to get some card stock or designer series paper. Fold it in half. Then place the die on top and run through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. (You might have to run it through twice since the thickness is doubled.) When the dies come out you will have one facing the other direction.

Resting with the right people.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting so you can be recharged for the week.

So imagine yourself just getting off of work. You have had a rough day (bosses, co-workers, etc.). And then one of your good friends calls and says let’s do dinner. You don’t have hubby to worry about. He is having a beer with the guys. So you say sure.

Dinner begins. Chips and salsa are on the table. Good conversation begins. A couple jokes…many laughs. After a little over an hour you both decide to call it a night and go home. You then decide to just sit and shortly hubby comes home.

Instead of the air being tense it’s much more palatable now. Life can be conquered and a good night’s rest will finish the recharge.

Does this sound like one of your days? It’s amazing to me the power of a good friend and what a few laughs can do. Try it once in a while. You’ll see.

World Card Making Day!

It’s Sale Saturday!

Today is World Card Making Day! So you are probably wondering where is the event or the contest. Well, here it is! Create a card today with any current Stampin’ Up! products and post it on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni. Each post (not comment) to my page with a picture and a little bit of description gets a ticket in the jar. The posts have to be done today (before midnight).

Then by Monday at midnight you need to comment on your post that you mailed or delivered the card. (If you cannot find your post please look under the community tab.) The comment that you mailed it will get you two additional tickets. Why two additional tickets you ask? Because your card cannot make impact sitting in a drawer. Please mail it.

So, what’s the prize for World Card Making Day? Stamps, of course! It is your choice from the recently retired Sale-A-Bration stamps. When you win I will send you a list to pick from. The winner will be announced in Tuesday’s weekly newsletter that goes out on the blog, https://stampingwithjoni.wordpress.com.

If you would like to order online please use the link https://www.stampinup.com?hostcode=V2T3MACA. This link will be good through Friday, October 15 at 7:30 pm.

Please note that the Deal of the Month has been discontinued.

Please remember that even though Sale-A-Bration is over the Mini Catalog is still good through December.

Seeing impact.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I know we can’t help everyone, but we can help one person. You may feel that it’s not enough impact to only help one person, but I bet that one person will disagree with you.

Have you been the one new kid and don’t know anyone? Have you just had a really challenging day? And, for me, there is often that one person that will come up to you and ask your name or if everything is all right.

I read article after article about how corporations help or how this person gave millions. I’m sure that would be nice but for most of us that is just not feasible. So I would say to focus on being kind and understanding that the little things often have the biggest impact.
