Feeling beat up?

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

Do you feel a little beat up today? I’m not talking physically, but mentally. After everything that has happened over the last two years I want to give you a piece of advice I have had to take many times. Give yourself a break. A bunch has happened and things keep changing and it’s a bunch to keep up with.

I remember growing up that we watched the news once a day, maybe twice. But it wasn’t all day every day like it is now. I know personally I tend to get overwhelmed if I am constantly looking at the news. So now I look in the morning and then don’t go back to it. It’s just too much. Instead I focus on what I can control. Some examples are giving back to my community, creating, focusing on my family (with my daughter in college that is sometimes a lot in itself), and making sure I am taking care of myself.

With everything that has happened I have learned that what I put in my brain is what comes out. Fear breeds fear. Positivity breeds good thoughts. And so on.

I would encourage you to think of your mental wellness much like you do your physical wellness. Put good things in and you will get good things out.

How to use vellum.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to use the Vellum Card Stock in two different ways.

First is to soften colors. If you have a design that you feel the colors are too bright or too deep use a piece of Vellum to soften or diffuse the colors. Make sure to have an accent over the vellum so you can hide your adhesive. If you prefer not to do this the Adhesive Sheets work fairly well in sticking the Vellum to card stock without much to be seen.

Second is to double emboss. Now I don’t mean to emboss with the Machine and a folder and then emboss with the powder and a Heat Tool. What I mean is to take a small detailed patterned embossing folder and run your piece of Vellum through. Then you take that same piece and run it through except with a folder that has a larger pattern.

To watch these being created please go to https://youtu.be/zQ4p9sSdcEM. When you watch please comment. If you comment before Tuesday the 9th I will also email you full written instructions.

Using Tear & Tape as a temporary adhesive.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Did you read the title and wonder if I have lost my mind? Well…maybe a little, but let me explain.

Recently I received a custom order of some magnets. I had the magnets figured out but I was having a hard time figuring out how to package them. Should I just create a big ball of magnets and wrap the entire tangled mess in some bubble wrap? No. Should I buy a piece of metal to stick them to? No. (adds more weight)

Finally I looked around and thought to package them similarly to how our dies are packaged. A piece of double-stick tape wasn’t strong enough. Glue dots were too tedious. Tear & Tape had just the right amount of stick to get them through the mail without one coming loose. While Tear & Tape is normally very strong it was the perfect temporary adhesive solution for me.

Remember that just because something is labeled a certain way doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it with something else.

Adding color to ribbon.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to talk to you about adding color to ribbon. Now I have talked to you about this in the past using the Stampin’ Blends. But today is with another ribbon, our Blending Brushes, and an ink pad. So just to remind you here is the picture from before.

So instead of the scalloped ribbon I want you to grab your 1/4″ White Crinkle Seam Binding, your favorite ink color, and a Blending Brush. Take a piece of washi tape or a post it to secure the ribbon end down and get to coloring. By securing the end your fingers won’t get quite as inky. Allow the ribbon to dry a minute or so and then use as needed or wanted.

Relax, rest, and rejuvenate.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

I love the order of this list. You have to relax first, then rest, and then you can rejuvenate. If you get the order wrong and try to rest but are still uptight it just won’t work.

So how do we do these things?

To relax means to break out of your routine. For me I read a book, watch a movie, or cook. Then I can rest which usually means to take a nap or sleep in. And, finally, I can feel rejuvenated.

What do you do to relax, rest, and rejuvenate?

Restoring faith by giving back.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I have often felt that my faith has been restored after I have given back. It’s that personal connection to another human being. It’s knowing you had a direct impact on someone else’s life for the better. It could be with my time, money, or simply a card sent in the mail. Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.

As I looked up the phrase “giving back” there were many synonyms listed. Some were repaying, reimbursing, refunding, compensating, making good, and restoration to name a few. Restoration is what stuck out to me. Restoration, to me, means anything from cleaning something up to taking it apart and putting something new in its place.

As I think about this word “restoration” it reminds me that I need to take the effort to restore someone’s faith in humanity by being kind, helping, or whatever is appropriate. Sometimes restoration is a bit messy but it is always worth it.

So how will you restore someone today?

Presenting the New Eden’s Garden Collection

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you a couple of cards with the new Eden’s Garden Collection.

For the first card the new Cotton Paper is embossed with the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing Folder. It was attached with Mini Glue Dots ever so carefully to the new Ever Eden 12X12 Specialty Designer Series Paper. Then the sentiment was stamped on Basic White Card Stock and trimmed. The ends were embossed with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder and then color was sponged with the Sponge Dauber.

The next card was a combination of the Cotton Paper crumpled up, the Designer Series Paper cut in half and flipped, the Artistic Dies, and the new Garden Gems.

For a look at the stamp and dies guides, another project, all the papers, and more please see the video at https://youtu.be/KE5xYMA-E0s. When you comment before Tuesday the 2nd you will get a list of all the supplies used for the three projects.
