Bling for Shoe Repair

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

I never thought I would say this but I used my bling for shoe repair. Here’s how this story goes…

I recently bought a pair of clogs at the local clothing store. I love just about any kind of shoe that can slip on and off. And if you know me then you know I am up and down all day. With each up and down usually comes a chance to misjudge a table leg or chair leg. So my shoes, specifically my toes, get pretty scuffed up.

Well, about a week or so ago I realized that one of my rivets was missing on my shoe. Since I am a detail person that drove me crazy. So I had to figure it out. This led me to go “hunting” in the studio to see how to fix this. Well, I rummaged through my bling box and found a set of the Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots. They were close enough to fix the blinding hole.

What have you fixed from your crafty products?

Dots to bring out the flowers.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to show you the difference a few dots can make.

I started stamping these flowers from the Flowering Tulips Cling Stamp Set and then cutting them out with the Tulips Dies. I noticed they looked a bit flat so then I pulled the Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends off the shelf and started to dot away. Look at the difference!

I’m always amazed how a little change can make such a huge difference!

Oh, and if you want to see the finished cards…

Resting with Rejuvenation

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting so you can be recharged for the rest of the week.

For those of you that live in the high desert, the last few days have been windy and a bit cold. I was out in it most of the day yesterday and my skin is feeling it. Dry, chapped, and I can’t tell if it is burned by wind or sun or both. Regardless, I looked up ways to take care of chapped skin specifically for the face.

As I was reading through the list I know a couple of the solutions surprised me. So I hope this helps you as much as it does me.

Chapped skin treatment specifically for the face…

  • Applying a few drops of coconut oil before bed helps to bring back moisture.
  • Rubbing or applying ghee (clarified butter) with a cotton ball or pad. It exfoliates and moisturizes. (This one surprised me.)
  • Rub yogurt before going out to prevent chapping. You can thin with a bit of water to allow to dry before applying make-up. (This one surprised me also.)
  • Rinse with coconut water will help with chapped skin and also scars. It is best for more oily skin.
  • Rubbing aloe vera on the face can also prevent dryness.

Exploring Volunteering

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I want you to think about something before you volunteer. If you have already volunteered then maybe this will be good to evaluate when you are halfway or before you renew your commitment.

I have many times volunteered without asking what the full extent was that I would be responsible for. This has led to me being surprised and having to put something else on the back burner to compensate.

I want to help you to not go through that. These three simple steps are amazing. They force us to look at what we are willing to do, what boundaries need to be drawn, expectations that need to be expressed, etc.

I hope this may help you.

Turning Tulips into Pots of Gold

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to make this rainbow card with a pot of gold made from a tulip.

Let’s begin with a picture, shall we?

This is what you will need to have on hand and how to prepare it.

  • Cut Thick Basic White Card Stock with the Paper Trimmer to 4 1/4″ X 11″. On the 11″ side score at 5 1/2″. This is your card base.
  • Cut Basic Black Card Stock with the Paper Trimmer to 4″ X 5 1/4″. This is your outer mat. Attach to card base with Stampin’ Seal.
  • Cut another piece of Basic Black Card Stock with the Paper Trimmer to 3 3/4″ X 5″. This is your inner mat and also your anchor sheet for all the strips. Attach Adhesive Sheets to the entire front of this inner mat. This will allow you to easily place the strips on the mat. Peel the adhesive backing off and begin to attach strips.
  • Cut strips from the colors of your choice measuring 1/2″ wide. You will need a few pieces that are just a bit longer than your inner mat to go across. Place your main color in a sort of “t”. Then begin attaching all the other colors in whatever pattern you choose. Tip: If you have a bit of sticky left you might want to dust the front with a bit of cornstarch, the embossing buddy (retired now), or a used dryer sheet. This will get rid of any residue from the Adhesive Sheet.
  • Punch out a tulip from the Tulip Builder Punch. Cut the top off just where it flairs with Snips. Then cut the middle nub off the “crown”. This will become your base for the pot to sit on. Attach all with Mini Glue Dots. Then attach to inner mat (with all the strips) with either Mini Glue Dots, Stampin’ Seal, or Dimensionals. Tip: If your strips come together and are a bit crooked this might be where your pot goes.
  • Take another piece of scratch card stock and cover both sides with Adhesive Sheet. Then punch out circles (1/2″ circle punch used here, now retired). Peel the front sticker backing off and brush the Gilded Leafing on. Repeat until covered and with all coins. Peel the backing off and then place on pot.
  • Take a leftover strip of color and stamp your sentiment. Attach on inner mat with Dimensionals.

Tulips become pots of gold.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Did you know that the Tulip Builder Punch can become a pot of gold? Just punch and cut off the top. The top becomes the base. And on it goes.

To see this tip in action please join me tonight at 7 pm.

P.S. During the live I will be raffling off this pack of gems! Join me! Must be present to win!

How to apply gilded leafing.

It’s Technique Tuesday! There are many ways to apply gilded leafing.

You can use…

  • Multipurpose Glue
  • Tear & Tape
  • Stampin’ Seal
  • Heat & Stick Powder
  • Adhesive Sheet

All are fairly simple but I found when an image is super small I need something I don’t have to heat or isn’t a huge mess. For this project I would use the Tear & Tape, Stampin’ Seal, or the Adhesive Sheet. In this sample I used the Adhesive Sheet.

To see the entire card and how this is created please plan on joining me tomorrow night at 7 pm.
