Saving Paper

It’s Technique Tuesday! This is not so much a technique as it is a tip.

Remember when gluing your mats down to punch or die cut out smaller accents to not waste paper.

Easing Your Mind

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

The last few weeks for me have been a bit chaotic. Flipping my business to go from mainly in person to mainly online has been a bit of a change. Joel (hubby) has been working (bagpipes) quite a bit. And Tara…she moved out of her apartment and is now touring until mid August. Add in selling a couple of vehicles and this last month has been a blur.

With all of this movement there have been some sleepless nights for me. I will admit that a bit of worry has come. And now that everything extra is done I am left trying to find peace again.

I read this interesting article on ways to ease your anxious mind. Here are some points that hit home for me.

  • Slow down physically. By slowing down your physical movements it allows you to slow down mentally too.
  • Release the critic whether it be someone else or in your own mind.
  • Look up and listen. Go outside and look at the sky, breathe, and listen to nature.

It’s All a Struggle

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I am so grateful for those that have poured in to me. I love being able to learn from those that are older in me both in age and experience.

My Auntie Leah passed away a few years ago at the age of 102 (I think). And the stories she had. She had made it through World War II with her husband flying a fighter plane. And then, after the war, my uncle joined Sears Roebuck’s team and he quickly became an executive. They were the first of the family to move away from everyone in Los Angeles. She lived in places like Philadelphia, Chicago, and eventually settled down in Atlanta.

One day that I was visiting, in between moves probably, and she asked if I was okay. I said yes, but that I was tired. This would be the third move out of state in less than three years. Tara was little and it was just exhausting. And she sympathized with me because she knew what it was to move and be jostled time and time again. But she said something profound in that moment that stuck with me.

I made the statement “that I am just waiting until things slow down”. She quickly corrected me and explained that things don’t get easier, we just get better through experience. I asked her when does it stop being such a struggle? And here is what stuck. “Enjoy the struggle. This is life. Without the struggle you don’t get stronger. The only time it gets easier is when you die. Don’t expect easy, expect good. Good times and good people make for a good life.”

That stopped me in my tracks. I knew she was right. That has stuck with me probably for life.

So when someone younger (in age or experience) comes alongside of you be careful what you say. Mean what you say. You never know when it will stick.

Stamping on Fabric

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to give you some tips for stamping on fabric.

This month’s Paper Pumpkin Kit has a mini canvas tote bag that started as a plain piece of fabric. But you can stamp on it…hint, hint.

When stamping on fabric here are some tips:

  • When inking your stamp…if there is any ink on the edges clean it. Anything other than the image of the stamp will be visible as well.
  • Hold the fabric taught to get a crisper image.
  • Place a piece of paper, chipboard, plastic, just something so the ink doesn’t bleed through to the other side.
  • If you are intending to wash the item then go get fabric ink pads at your local craft store.

So here is this infamous little tote bag…

When you use this technique please post a photo of your finished project on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.
