Breaking up the paper.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today we are talking about how to break up that busy paper.

As some of you know I am not always a fan of really busy paper or Designer Series Paper. I often prefer the more abstract watercolors or backgrounds. But, nevertheless, here I am talking about that busy paper that reminds me of my Grama. You see my Grama had in her guest bedroom some wallpaper that looked pretty similar to this. It was called the “daisy room” and after looking at the picture below you will know exactly why.

So instead of cutting all those little pieces for accents take a piece of coordinating solid card stock and place it across the entire piece to break up the pattern. It’s amazing how a properly arranged diversion can help so much.

If you use this technique please post your photos of your creation on my page, https://www.facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

Are you running low?

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and recharge so you are ready to go for the week.

Have you noticed that your batteries seem to be running low? Are you tired no matter what you do?

Recently I did some maintenance on my truck and realized that the water in my battery was running a bit low. I checked because when I started my truck it just seemed a little slower to start than normal. So I popped the top and poured some distilled water down in there. The next time I went to start it there was no problem getting it to go.

If you are feeling like it’s a little hard to get started you might need to take a second to refill your batteries. That might be just enjoying a cup of coffee or it might be travelling a bit. Whatever you need to do to get recharged make sure to block time off and get filled up again.

Perspective is everything.

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I recently have been feeling like I am hitting a wall physically. I have been back to my workouts for about a month and my body is on a plateau. It seems to be teasing me to see if I am really serious about this whole healthy thing.

As I was talking to a friend about this they said maybe the wall is there to remind you to not do it all right now. After taking a breath (a day or two off) I realized the wall wasn’t that high after all. Now I am able to keep going after taking a second to relax.

I don’t know if you are going through something similar physically, mentally, or spiritually. But I will remind you to lean on your wall for a moment to catch your breath before you go over it.

Spritzing some glimmer.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to use a stencil with some self-made glimmer mist paint.

For this card you will need a card base, outer mat, and inner mat. The inner mat needs to be somewhat dark for the shimmer to show up. And don’t forget the envelope.

The shimmer paint mist is done by getting a Stampin’ Spritzer and filling it about three quarters full with rubbing alcohol. I then dropped five drops of the Frost White Shimmer Paint in the tube and shook it (after putting the cap on). Then you place the stencil over the card stock and spray away. The alcohol dries faster than water so the card stock does not disintegrate.

The label was cut from the Stitched Shapes Dies. Before I punched the card stock out of the die I ran a stylus around the edge to give a slight border. I stamped the trees and sentiment from the latest Paper Pumpkin Kit. The trees were inked with Gray Granite but stamped off once. The sentiment was stamped in Basic Gray Ink. I then used Dimensionals to create depth for this card to stand out.

To view how this card was created and more than four other stenciling techniques please go to https://youtu.be/sD7BTU18lUE.

Foam for stamps!

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

The Foam Adhesive Sheets can be used for several projects. They can be used to pop things up or to seal a shaker card. But did you know that the Foam Adhesive Sheets can help you to create a stamp? Yes, a stamp.

Grab your Foam Adhesive Sheet and some card stock and cut out what you want to create a stamp. Then peel the backing off the sheet and stick to a block or anything that can be used as a handle. Tip: One word of caution…the sheet is very sticky so be careful what you stick it to.

Ink as normal to create a background.

If you create with this tip please post a photo on my page, https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

Creating an edge.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today I want to show you how to create an edge.

When you are cutting out a shape from the dies do not push out your paper. Instead leave it in the die and grab your stylus. Run your stylus just around the edge to create a raised edge.

To see this in action please join me tomorrow night for the Facebook Live at 7 pm on https://facebook.com/StampingWithJoni.

How to know when to rest.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting so you can be recharged for the upcoming week.

So how do you know if you are adequately rested? If you have these symptoms then it might be time to rest a little extra. (Now this is for when you are physically working out, but a lot can be said for this mentally as well.)

  • You are excessively sore.
  • You have a nagging pain.
  • You feel “off”.
  • You are losing enthusiasm.
  • You are fatigued.

You also need to know the difference between planned and unplanned rest periods. A planned period is when you block off time to rest. An unplanned period is when your body needs rest and “yells” at you. This can be done with any of the symptoms listed above being exhibited.

So I would encourage you to listen to your body so you know when to plan your rest periods. I know since I have been listening I have fewer unplanned ones.

To read the entire article about knowing when to take a rest please go to https://coconutsandkettlebells.com/when-to-take-a-rest-day/.
