Embossing on Vellum

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you how to emboss on vellum, all vellum.

First you will want to have a card base, outer mat, and inner mat. The inner mat will be of your vellum. You will also need a few scraps of card stock to create your accent pieces.

For this card you will need the above supplies as well as a detailed embossing folder (small accents) and a punch or two.

The main thing I want you to take away from this is that you can do quite a bit with vellum, whether it be the card stock or the shimmery type.

The Muppets are in the Pansies.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

Do you remember when I told you to look at things sideways and upside down? Well, today I didn’t have to do that. Instead I had the Pansy Patch Photopolymer Stamp Set on my desk. I looked down and saw the Muppets…the Swedish Chef to be exact. Tell me if you see it.

Here’s the stamp set:

And here’s the Swedish Chef,

And here’s the stamped image,

What do you think? Do you see it?

Turn it sideways.

It’s Technique Tuesday! When you think you have done all you can with a stamp set, die, or punch then turn it sideways.

We have done quite a bit with the Simply Elegant Punch but I need to ask you…have you turned it sideways? Recently Stampin’ Up! blogged about this very thing and it caught my eye. Here’s a screenshot of what I am talking about.

Instead of that punch facing up they turned it sideways.

No News is Good News!

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest and recharge so you can hit the ground running for the week.

I have noticed that the less news that I watch or read the happier I am. Have you found that to be the case as well?

Since we are seeking peace to truly rest I would encourage you to turn off the news to achieve just that. Maybe not for good, but at least today.

Giving with Attitude

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

So often we get caught up in what we can do for someone else. But we need to pay attention to something else too…how we do for someone else. What’s our attitude or intent? Without the right kind of attitude then often something gets lost in the translation of the kind act. Make sure your heart is in the right place. Now if you are having a grumpy day and someone is hungry I am sure they will still be happy to get something to eat. But for the every day ins and outs make sure you are at peace so when you help it goes even further.

Playing with Pastels

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you a newer product called the Soft Pastels Assortment. The Pastels are on page 126 of the Annual Catalog and retail for $9. There are 8 colors — Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, and Poppy Parade. I have found five different ways to create with this medium.

  • Stamp an image and color with the Pastels. Then blend or watercolor with the Water Painters.
  • Stamp an image and color with the Blender Pen. To get the color place the pen directly on to the Pastels.
  • Stamp an image and color with the Pastels. Then after smooth with your finger.
  • Shave some of the Pastel of your color choice on to a Silicone Mat and use a Blending Brush to pick up the color. Then either color a stamped image or use a mask or stencil.
  • And last, but not least, use a Sponge Dauber to pick up the color and then either color an image or use a mask.

A picture is worth more.

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! In this time of graduations do not be afraid to allow a photo to be the entire front of your card.

Find some really great Designer Series Paper and make a frame for it. You can do this be cutting a mat and simply taking a knife and creating slits in the corners for the photo to tuck in to. Then whomever can take the photo out and keep it without their being glue or tape on the back of it.

How to clean your stamps and your blocks.

It’s Technique Tuesday! I thought instead of giving you a technique I would instead tell you how to clean your stamps and your blocks. This will ensure you get the best image possible when stamping.

To clean your stamps (the photopolymer ones) take a container and fill an inch or so with warm soapy water (Dawn soap is what I use). Place stamps in water for about 5 minutes, rinse, and then dry.

To clean your blocks…for a quick clean use hand sanitizer and a chamois. For a deep clean take them to the sink and wash with warm soapy water.

Joni 🙂
