A Little History

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to rest so you can be recharged for the week.

Since this is a holiday weekend I figured I would give a bit of history on how Labor Day came to be.

As we as a nation moved from the farms to the factories there were long work hours involved. As the Industrial Age came in full force the average worker’s rights came in to question as well. With production increasing you would think wages would increase. But in many instances not only did they stagnate but even decreased.

So Peter J. McGuire and Matthew Maguire both decided separately to organize the first unions in New York to get workers to be treated more fairly. On September 5, 1882 the first “parade” showed up at city hall to show their strength. There were bands, food, and more. This kind of sounds like today.

Well, the tradition caught on. To this day there is plenty of enjoyment taken on this well deserved day off.

To read the entire history and article please go to https://www.employmentlawhandbook.com/resources/the-history-of-labor-day-in-the-united-states/.

So enjoy your extra day of rest this week on this holiday weekend.

Where to Start

It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward in your chosen community.

Have you been overwhelmed on where to start? Everywhere you look someone is asking for help whether it be time, money, or supplies. But you’re not sure where to start.

Here’s a good place to start. It’s called VolunteerMatch and can be found at https://www.volunteermatch.org/. You submit your local area and it shows you matches for volunteering. Then you have to find out which one is good for you. But at least the mountain might be just a bit smaller now.

How to Emboss with Dies

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended! Today is a two-fer. I will show you how to emboss with your dies and how to use your Specialty Plate at the same time.

For this you will need your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Grab your die and a piece of card stock. Set up like normal but with a few pieces missing. Your sandwich or platforms for your Machine from bottom to top should be #1 (big chunk platform), no #2 (adapter plate), #3 (clear cutting plate), card stock, die, and #4 (specialty plate). If you are going to do this technique a lot I would recommend purchasing a second Specialty Plate as the dies do dig in to the surface. That way you could have one for this technique and another for the embossing folders that doesn’t have “embellishments”.

To see this technique in action please tune in tonight for the Facebook Live at 7 pm.
