It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.

I know it is often said “…check in on those you love”. But yesterday was truly that for me. There were several posts, messages, and more from military spouses. And yes, I checked with a few myself.

It’s been almost 10 years since Joel (hubby) retired from the Marines but I don’t think there’s a way to escape this way of life. I thought the scars from deployments, field operations, concerts, trips, and more had healed. But today I found out that all of that can come rushing back with one report stating that there are Marines that have been killed or injured. And then, just like we had never left, friends are checking on each other and trying to make sense of losing some of our “own”.

These friends have seen me at my worst and my best…and have helped. I don’t know how else to explain it. So for all of my military spouse friends I am praying for you and for God’s hand to keep you safe. And for all the active duty or retired I pray you rest well in knowing that you are serving or served well.

So if you have a good friend contact them. Make them feel loved. In the last couple of years things haven’t been so predictable. But it’s a great reminder what a difference a smile, note, or phone call can make.

• Paper Trimmer
• Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
• Layering Circles Dies
• Artistic Dies

It’s Wacky Wednesday where a product is used in a way it is not intended!

I have to ask you…how do you organize your ribbons? Mine are thrown into a drawer. I know others that have them on a dowel or a shoebox. The reason I ask is because my spools are often messy with tails of ribbon all over the drawer. These often get tangled and messy.

So instead I found if I cut a small slit in the cardboard spool I could place the end in that and not have a mess. It took a crafting knife to get the slit cut as it was a bit too thick for a scissors or snips.

I hope this helps you to stay a bit organized and have more time creating instead of untangling.

It’s Technique Tuesday! Today we are cutting things in half that are too big.

For today’s technique I want you to think that if it’s too big to fit on a card front, cut it! And don’t be afraid to cut it. What’s the worst that can happen? You mess it up and it goes in the trash. That’s the worst. I promise that no one will die.

Recently I received my Paper Pumpkin and it had a huge butterfly in it. It was designed to go on top of the box but instead I wanted it for a card. No matter how I turned it the accent was too big. Then I got an idea…cut it! So I cut it in half and now I have two more cards that I didn’t before. Here’s what they look like.

So which one do you like better? Can you believe those butterflies are the same? They look so different with the different colored backgrounds.

It’s Sabbath Sunday! This is the day to focus on resting so you can be recharged for the week.

I don’t know about you but I am a person that likes my routine. I like my familiar sounds and smells. And I like knowing what is going to happen, generally.

When any of this is out of whack I tend to lean on exercise, stress-eating (funny since exercise is here too), or some music to change my mood. I have to say that I can go from easy listening to heavy metal depending on what’s happening.

And when I am trying to sleep and am having trouble I tend to focus on white noise. This could be anything from the whirring of the ceiling fan to listening to the sound of the ocean waves on a white noise app. It’s amazing to me how much of an effect our outer environment has on our inner peace.

How do you manipulate your outer environment to maintain your inner peace?

I have to say that for me the ones closest often get the brunt of me. They get me when my hair is not done. They get me when I am sweaty from the gym. They get me venting. And even when I am owning the bad attitude.

I have to remind myself to be nice to the ones closest to me. This, of course, mainly includes my hubby. My daughter is sometimes thrown into this ring with a handful of friends as well. So the next time I think about keeping my hair up and not doing it, I need to do it anyways. The next time I smell iffy…go hit the shower. And remember to talk about the good things as well as the bad ones. This way they see both sides of the story as well as some of the craziness too.

This is as much of a reminder for me as it is for you. Be nice to the ones you live with. After all, they will be the ones to pick you up literally and figuratively.

It’s Tutorial Thursday! Today I want to show you that not re-inking is sometimes the answer.

For this card I did not re-ink the stamp and just kept going until all the space was filled. It also helps that the background paper, Expressions in Ink, helped in the design.
