It’s Friendship Friday! This is the day to focus on giving back or paying it forward.
Have you heard me talk about The Tipping Point? It’s a book that I read many years ago that truly left its mark on me. The story is about a gentleman that moves into a small town. The town is run down and he sets his sights on making a difference. He paints his house, responds with kindness, and takes care of his own. When people start to notice they start caring too. The concept is that a small pebble thrown in a pond will have a ripple effect. So no matter how small do something that creates impact.
The book can be found at Amazon. Here’s the link…https://smile.amazon.com/The-Tipping-Point-audiobook/dp/B000OYD8T2/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=tipping+point&qid=1638547947&sr=8-1. And the audiobook is free. Take a listen or a read.
As we get older this concept of making a ripple has definitely come full circle. My husband is a great example of this. Let me explain.
Let’s go back to the year 1987. The top song was Faith by George Michael. (Here is the link if you want to listen, https://youtu.be/6Cs3Pvmmv0E.) Joel was 17 and was just discovering how important music was to him.
He heard about this performance and he had to go. It was a gig. He asked Mom and she said yes. As he took his steps out of the car he could already hear it. The sound of tubas. Such a cacophony that comforted him. It was his first ever Tuba Christmas.
Tuba Christmas is a choir of tubas playing Christmas carols that you can sing along to.
Since 1987 he has made it a point, no matter where in the world we are, to play at Tuba Christmas. I think we have missed a year or two and that is all.
Well, fast forward to the 2000’s. We are still going to Tuba Christmas but we are driving 3 hours to do it. We are adventuring to Anaheim, LA, or sometimes Riverside. And one day it clicked. Why don’t I (Joel talking) coordinate one?
So after some research we began to plan to head up the first Tuba Christmas in the desert. In 2017 was the debut. Now last year was Joel and Tara in my living room, but every other year has been a choreographed event. This year proves to be no different. So, if you want dinner and a show, come down to The River in Rancho Mirage to see the Christmas tree lighting and enjoy some Christmas carols. Dinner is your choice. Here is the link to the event so you can check it out…https://fb.me/e/44MNsPcze.
This is just one reminder of how all those musicians put into Joel and how he is now giving back by putting the energy into coordinating events for the next generation to be able to attend or participate.
I hope to see you tonight.
Happy Crafting!
With inky fingers,
Joni 🙂
